Volkswagen had to pause production of the electric ID.4 SUV in September due to a problem with door handles that could allow the doors to open unexpectedly while driving. Now, the plant in Chattanooga, Tenn., is back up and running, churning out the 2025 ID.4 — well, some 2025 ID.4s.

For now, VW is only building the ID.4 with the larger, 82-kilowatt-hour battery pack; ID.4s with this battery are classified as Pro trims. The 62-kWh pack will rejoin the lineup later in 2025, with all models to gain additional content sometime midyear. Until then, the 2025 ID.4s that are available will be unchanged from the 2024 model.
Availability and Pricing
Deliveries of the 2025 ID.4 will begin soon. Full pricing (including $1,425 destination fee) is as follows; rear-wheel drive is standard, while all-wheel drive is a $3,900 option on the entry-level Pro and mid-level Pro S and standard on the range-topping Pro S Plus.
- Pro: $46,520
- Pro S: $51,620
- Pro S Plus: $58,720
Safety Features and Trim Levels
Its range may not stand out in the burgeoning electric SUV class, but the 2025 ID.4’s safety suite does. Standard equipment includes forward collision warning with pedestrian and bicyclist detection, automatic emergency braking, lane departure steering assist, blind spot intervention, rear cross-traffic alert, adaptive cruise control, automated parking, front and rear parking sensors, and automatic high beams.
The ID.4 Pro rides on 19-inch wheels and features LED headlights and taillights, rain-sensing windshield wipers, and keyless entry and start. Inside are cloth seats that are manually adjustable but heated in front, dual-zone automatic climate control, wireless phone charging, and a 12.9-inch touchscreen with navigation, voice control, and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. AWD variants get 20-inch wheels, a heated windshield and a trailer hitch receiver.
Buyers who really want 20-inch wheels can also just level up to the Pro S, which includes them on both RWD and AWD builds. The Pro S also adds upgraded LED lighting with adaptive headlights, foglights, illuminated VW logos front and rear, a fixed panoramic moonroof, power liftgate, perforated synthetic leather upholstery, ventilated power-adjustable front seats and a heated steering wheel. The cabin lighting is upgraded, too, going from the Pro’s 10-color ambient lighting to 30.
In addition to standard AWD, the Pro S Plus gets 21-inch wheels, a black roof with silver accents, 14-speaker Harman Kardon audio, three-zone automatic climate control, heated rear seats and a 360-degree camera system.

Powertrain Specs and Range
With the larger battery pack, the rear-drive ID.4’s single electric motor generates 282 system horsepower and 402 pounds-feet of torque. Volkswagen says the AWD ID.4 makes 335 hp but does not quote a total torque output.
Range for the entry-level Pro and mid-level Pro S is EPA-rated 263 miles with AWD; with RWD, it should keep the same EPA-rated 291 miles as the 2024 model. An official range estimate is not available for the 2025 Pro S Plus. On a DC fast charger at 175 kilowatts, the Pro battery pack can recharge from 10% to 80% in roughly 30 minutes, according to VW.
