It may look the same, but Toyota made big changes under the skin of its GR Corolla for 2025. It reworked the hot hatch’s turbocharged 1.6-liter three-cylinder engine, finding another 22 pounds-feet of torque; that brings maximum torque to 295 pounds-feet, while horsepower remains unchanged at 300. Front and rear limited-slip differentials, previously part of the $1,180 Performance Package, are now standard, and engineers tweaked the suspension to reduce squat during acceleration and keep the inside tires on the ground better during hard turns. In exchange for these improvements, Toyota is asking $2,360 more for the 2025 GR Corolla than it did for the 2024 model, with the car’s base price now set at $39,995.

Powertrain Specs and MPG

The other big news for 2025 is a new eight-speed automatic transmission. Until now, the GR Corolla has only been offered with a six-speed manual. Available on all three trim levels, the eight-speed costs $2,000 and includes a dedicated automatic transmission cooler. You do pay a slight penalty in fuel economy with the automatic transmission, though, as it gets an EPA-rated 19/27/22 mpg city/highway/combined compared to the manual GR Corolla’s 21/28/24 mpg.

Availability and Pricing

The 2025 Toyota GR Corolla is on sale now. Full pricing, including the $1,135 destination fee, is as follows:

  • Core: $39,995
  • Premium: $42,575
  • Premium Plus: $46,650

Safety Features and Trim Levels

Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 is standard on the 2025 GR Corolla. The tech suite includes forward collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane departure alert, lane departure prevention, lane-tracing assist, automatic high beams and road-sign recognition. Blind spot monitors and rear cross-traffic alert are not grouped under the TSS 3.0 banner but are also standard.

Most of the GR’s aggressive exterior styling is standard on the entry-level Core trim, which rides on gloss-black 18-inch wheels and features the car’s signature triple-outlet exhaust and black finishes on the grille, front fender vents and rear bumper. Additionally, the Core gets LED exterior lighting, keyless entry and start, black cloth seats with gray stitching, manually adjustable front seats, aluminum pedals and automatic climate control. The basic tech setup consists of six speakers, a 12.3-inch digital instrument panel, and an 8-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Where the Core trim has matte-black on its grille and rear bumper, the Premium goes with gloss-black. It also adds front and rear parking sensors, seats upholstered in a mix of synthetic suede and synthetic leather with gray stitching, heated front seats, a heated steering wheel and dual-zone automatic climate control. The Premium’s infotainment system still relies on an 8-inch touchscreen, but it is upgraded with wireless device charging, one year of complimentary navigation through Connected Services and an eight-speaker JBL sound system.

Taking the place of last year’s Circuit Edition, the Premium Plus includes much of the same equipment but features matte-black 18-inch wheels, a unique hood with a prominent bulge and functional air vents, a forged carbon-fiber roof, a supplementary radiator for improved engine cooling during long track sessions and red stitching in place of the Premium’s gray.
