subaru brz 2024 exterior oem 01 jpg

Subaru’s misfit, the BRZ, rolls into the 2025 model year unchanged beyond a newly standard Sport mode that sharpens throttle response in cars with the six-speed manual transmission and a deeper color for the Limited trim’s upholstery. To its buyers, that’s fine. The 2025 Subaru BRZ is a purist’s delight; a lightweight, rear-drive sports car with seats for two, a backseat for littles (or more likely, groceries) and an attainable base price up just $950 from 2024, to $32,265 (all prices include a $1,170 destination fee).

Powertrain Specs and MPG

In a lineup of SUVs and hatchbacks, the BRZ stands out not only as Subaru’s only rear-drive coupe, but also as one of the few Subarus not available with a turbocharged engine. Tucked under the hood of every BRZ is a normally aspirated 2.4-liter flat-four that makes 228 horsepower and 184 pounds-feet of torque. It’s teamed with a standard six-speed manual transmission, although a six-speed automatic with paddle shifters is available on the Limited for $850.

With the manual transmission, Subaru says the BRZ keeps its 2024 figures and returns an EPA-rated 20/27/22 mpg city/highway/combined; cars with the automatic improve to 21/30/25 mpg (official EPA ratings for the 2025 model are not yet available).

Availability and Pricing

The 2025 Subaru BRZ will go on sale early next year. Full line pricing is as follows:

  • Premium: $32,265
  • Limited: $34,915
  • tS: $37,415

Safety Features and Trim Levels

Subaru’s EyeSight driver-assistance suite is standard on the BRZ and includes forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning and adaptive cruise control.

The BRZ is an elemental sports car, with the basic package including little more than the essentials to go fast (ish) and enjoy the drive. The entry-level Premium trim rides on gray 17-inch wheels and features a limited-slip differential, LED headlights, and keyless entry and start. It’s upholstered in black cloth with red accent stitching and has dual-zone automatic climate control, a 7-inch gauge cluster display, and an 8-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

The mid-level BRZ Limited is fitted with matte-gray 18-inch wheels wearing Michelin Pilot Sport 4 summer tires. Its safety suite is upgraded with upgraded blind spot intervention, lane-centering steering, rear cross-traffic alert and adaptive headlights. Cabin enhancements include synthetic suede seats with red leather accents, heated front seats and an upgraded audio system.

Reintroduced to the BRZ lineup for 2024, the tS includes the Limited’s features but sharpens the car’s performance focus with Hitachi dampers front and rear, Brembo brakes featuring larger rotors and gold-painted calipers, and dark-gray 18-inch wheels. The tS gets blue accent stitching instead of the standard red, sport seats and synthetic suede trim.
