What Is the 2023 Chevrolet Bolt EV?

The Chevrolet Bolt EV is an electric-powered four-door hatchback with an EPA-estimated maximum driving range of 259 miles and standard DC fast-charging capability. While the Bolt EV doesn’t rewrite the EV rulebook in terms of performance or design, its small size and reasonable range make it an appealing choice. This is especially true when you consider it’s one of the most affordable paths to EV ownership, and it delivers far more range than similarly priced rivals like the Mazda MX-30, Mini SE Hardtop and the base version of the Nissan Leaf. Chevrolet also offers a slightly larger, SUV-like version of the Bolt EV named Bolt EUV (for “electric utility vehicle”).

What’s New on the 2023 Chevrolet Bolt EV?

After a significant refresh last year, the biggest change for 2023 is a significant price drop: It initially went down $5,900, though this was revised to $5,000 in January 2023.

What Features in the 2023 Chevrolet Bolt EV Are Most Important?

Standard features include:

  • 10.2-inch touchscreen
  • Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
  • Subscription-based Wi-Fi hot spot
  • DC fast charging
  • 60/40-split, folding backseat
  • Satellite radio
  • Two USB ports
  • Lane departure steering assist
  • Automatic emergency braking
  • Pedestrian detection
  • Automatic high-beam headlights

Available features include:

  • Heated steering wheel
  • Heated front and rear seats
  • Wireless device charging
  • 360-degree camera system
  • Blind spot warning
  • Adaptive cruise control
  • Rear cross-traffic alert
  • Bose audio system
  • Two rear USB ports

Should I Buy the 2023 Chevrolet Bolt EV?

If you’re on the fence about EVs, the low entry price of the 2023 Bolt EV could seal the deal. It’s not the wildest-looking or quickest electric car, nor does it offer all-wheel drive, but its interior room is ample considering its tidy exterior proportions — which make the Bolt EV a great fit for urban driving. The car’s 200-horsepower electric motor provides plenty of thrust when needed, and driving range is better than other EVs around the same price. The Bolt EV’s price drop for 2023 is in part a response to the recall issues that affected Bolt EVs built prior to April 2022.

Awesome car.

Awesome car. Simply the most car you can buy for the $$$. Only short coming would be for a person without home charging since DC charging is not the fastest on the Bolt. If you took a VW Golf GTI and mashed it with an old school quite, cushy Cadillac and made it cheap to own and run like say a Prius you would have the Bolt.

Great Metro Car

Small but mighty. Best value EV for first and long term cost. Great acceleration and braking, especially when using Regen paddle. Nice GM incentive to pay for 220V garage charger as it is needed for overnight recharge. I bought the EV1 model since I didn't needed heated seats in Florida, but would have liked forward crash collision braking and side mirror lane changing warning. Overall, the Bolt EV is ideal for me.
