What Is the 2024 BMW X6?

The BMW X6 is based on the mid-size BMW X5 SUV but has a sleeker profile thanks to its tapered, fastback-style roofline. The xDrive40i trim has a 335-horsepower, turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six engine, while the M60i has a 523-hp, twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter V-8. The high-performance X6 M packs an upgraded 617-hp version of the twin-turbo V-8 along with a specific track-tuned suspension and other performance-focused hardware. All X6s come with an eight-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive. The X6’s rivals include the Audi Q8, Land Rover Range Rover Sport and Porsche Cayenne Coupe.

What’s New on the 2024 BMW X6?

Along with its X5 sibling, the X6 undergoes an extensive refresh that includes updated exterior styling, hybridized powertrains, revised interiors, new tech features and a renamed trim level. All powertrains get a 48-volt mild-hybrid system, and output of the entry-level turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six-cylinder engine has been bumped from 335 hp to 375. Despite a name change from M50i to M60i, the M60i’s twin-turbo 4.4-liter V-8 stands pat at 523 hp. The X6 M is now offered solely in top-line Competition form. Every X6 gets a freshened interior featuring BMW’s Curved Display, which is a 12.3-inch digital gauge panel paired with a 14.9-inch infotainment touchscreen. The 2024 X6 also gets the latest version of BMW’s iDrive infotainment software and new ambient lighting features. BMW’s Highway Assistant hands-free driving system is newly available.

What Features in the 2024 BMW X6 Are Most Important?

Standard features include:

  • 12.3-inch configurable instrument display
  • 14.9-inch infotainment touchscreen
  • Ambient interior lighting
  • Panoramic moonroof
  • Android Auto and Apple CarPlay smartphone connectivity
  • Navigation
  • Forward collision warning with city collision mitigation
  • Lane departure warning
  • Blind spot warning

Available features include:

  • Highway Assistant driving aid
  • 360-degree camera system
  • Head-up instrument display
  • Harman Kardon surround-sound stereo
  • Reverse automatic emergency braking
  • Four-zone automatic climate control
  • Heated front and rear seats
  • Heated steering wheel and armrests

Should I Buy the 2024 BMW X6?

The BMW X6 is a sportier take on its more conventionally shaped X5 sibling. It’s also more expensive and less practical than the X5 because its sloping roofline eats into cargo space and hurts rear visibility. On the other hand, its head-turning looks and strong performance will appeal to SUV shoppers who want something that stands out in a crowd. Thanks in part to its updated and slightly edgier design, the X6 does exactly that. It also comes with a long list of standard comfort, tech and safety features.
