What Is the 2024 BMW 2 Series?

The BMW 2 Series is a small, sporty luxury coupe available with a choice of three engines. Powering the base 230i is a 255-horsepower, turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder, while the energetic M240i is equipped with a 382-hp, turbo 3.0-liter inline-six. Both engines are coupled with an eight-speed automatic transmission and rear- or all-wheel drive. Sorry, BMW fans: If you want a manual gearbox, you’ll have to pony up for the pricey performance M2 version that has a 453-hp, twin-turbo six-cylinder, standard AWD, and a six-speed manual or eight-speed automatic transmission. The 2 Series’ competitors include the Lexus RC, Nissan Z and Toyota Supra.

What’s New on the 2024 BMW 2 Series?

The 2 Series lineup enters the 2024 model year with no notable changes or updates.

What Features in the 2024 BMW 2 Series Are Most Important?

Standard features include:

  • 12.3-inch digital instrument panel
  • 8.8-inch infotainment display
  • Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
  • Navigation
  • Wi-Fi hot spot
  • Dual-zone climate control
  • Two USB ports
  • Power-adjustable front seats
  • Lane departure steering assist
  • Lane departure warning
  • Rear cross-traffic alert
  • Blind spot warning

Available features include:

  • 10.3-inch infotainment display
  • Six-speed manual transmission (M2)
  • Moonroof
  • Interior ambient lighting
  • Heated front seats
  • Heated steering wheel
  • Head-up instrument display
  • Hands-free park assist
  • 360-degree camera system
  • Wireless device charging
  • 16-speaker Harman Kardon audio system

Should I Buy the 2024 BMW 2 Series?

The 2 Series is the type of BMW that enthusiast drivers love. It’s small and agile, wonderfully quick (even with its base engine) and has a firm ride that inspires confidence in spirited driving. Optional AWD provides added grip when Mother Nature doesn’t want to cooperate. The 2 Series’ small trunk and tiny backseat are expected in such a pert coupe, but we wish the exhaust note were more aggressive across the range, including the tire-smoking M2. The steering also exhibits a degree of numbness that’s surprising in such a sporty vehicle.

My gift to myself

I did careful reviews of this model as well as the 4 Series. I was really looking at the 2023 4 Series 2Dr Coupe. I decided to go with the 2024 M240I because ... 1. it's a two door. I liked what I was seeing with the professional/owner reviews for the 2023 model year. And 2. I bought this as the last new car I will buy and as a reward to myself for a life well lived and jobs well done. I got the Portimao Blue Metallic Cognac Interior. I didn't pay for the add-on's that dealers like to charge. I only paid for what I had too. Do your homework on this. Will save thousand if you do. Some emails, couple of phone calls and the deal was done. Now, down to my opinions of this car.... I didn't really think I would like the run flats ... but, not bad at all. Like any tire, depending on the road surface, they can either be loud or quite. For the most part, quite. Add to that the build quality of BMW and I have a quite riding car. When the door closes, it does it with a solid "this door is closed" sound. Only other thing I will add about the tires ... I will get a donut spare. Don't like not being without it, run flats not withstanding. The interior is very well done I think. Everything is right there for you to get to without having to stretch for it. The IDrive 8 is very easy to work once you get it sorted the way you want it. Seats are very comfortable. Heated seats warm up nicely in cold weather ... so does the steering wheel. Sound system is great. I really like the fact that BMW kept the control wheel for the IDrive 8 system and didn't go full on touch screen. Same with buttons on the steering wheel. Real buttons. Another thing that I thought I wouldn't like was the toggle for the gear selector. Not a issue at all. Given the small interior for the 2Dr Coupe, the toggle works out well. A stalk selector would have been like a black eye. Engine response when you put your foot on it is right there. I've not noticed any turbo lag at all. Maybe due to the M240I being a 6 and not a 4. Power is there when you need it. My MPG so far has been about 26.5 in town. Was over 30 mpg on the highway/interstate. Having to use premium is not a factor for me. Knew that going in before I bought the car. For the cost of this car, spend the money and use the premium grade. Visibility hasn't been an issue at all. The tech is great. Works very well and is easy to set up the way you want it. The back up sensors were at first a bit annoying, but I got used to them fairly quickly. Loving the heads up display. So far, I've got no complaints.
