Much of Volvo’s lineup includes some type of electrified powertrain option — from the all-electric XC40 SUV to plug-in options and mild-hybrid setups — and now the automaker is expanding the technology to the V90 Cross Country wagon.

Related: New Volvos After 2019 Will Be Hybrid or Electric

Volvo began rolling out its mild-hybrid powertrain in the 2020 XC90 large SUV, followed by the XC60 compact SUV, and the V90 Cross Country will use the same system. According to Volvo, the models’ 48-volt mild-hybrid powertrain and kinetic energy recovery braking system offers drivers up to 15% fuel savings and emissions reductions in real-world driving.

Other updates to the V90 and S90 include a new lower front bumper, new spoiler design and new foglights. V90 and V90 Cross Country models also wear a new light design in back with full LED-powered signature lighting.

Inside, there’s a new available Bowers & Wilkins audio system, as well as wireless charging and updated USB-C ports. Volvo also said the tailored wool-blend seats first introduced on the XC90 are now available on all 90 and 60 models, as well as a leather-free interior option, which is available on the top trim of each.

No word yet on when the new models are coming. Volvo announced the updates to the S90 and V90 in a global news release but said only that the refreshed models will be available in many markets.

Everything is 5 star until you begin to drive

I loved it when I drove it out of the showroom. The Interior is beautiful and refined. The exterior styling is sleek and understated. But after two years the love is gone. It's still a pleasure to sit in, just not a pleasure to drive. The suspension and ride are not on par with the styling and interior. You feel every crack and crevice. The low-profile tires may look good but they perform terribly. Multiple flats and bent rims over the past two years driving on suburban streets. I am a 5x Volvo owner. I don't see a 6th in the future.

S90 Inscription: Best of the Best!

My 2020 Volvo S90 Inscription came loaded with every available option and I had the dealership install the Polestar software increasing the horsepower and tightening the suspension making this car an absolute joy to drive. The S90 replaced my 4-year old S550 and trumps the Benz in just about every category with the exception of price, perceived status, and cost of ownership and this is coming from someone who has owned no fewer than 19 M-B’s including 11 S and SL class. The S90 seems to be a rare bird and a well-kept secret as I see so few of them in Connecticut. I set out to purchase the new Genesis and even test drove a new 7-series, but when the dust settled, the S90 offered everything that I was looking for in a full size sedan with absolutely no compromise. No one can rival the comfort of a Volvo seat and when paired with the concert level Bowers and Wilkins sound system often finds me taking the long route home. It’s that nice!
