By Cars.com Editors

our expert's take

What Is the 2022 Volkswagen Passat?

The Passat is a five-seat mid-size sedan that competes with cars like the Honda Accord, Toyota Camry and Hyundai Sonata. It’s powered by a standard 174-horsepower, turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that works with a six-speed automatic transmission. The Passat’s trunk measures 18.5 cubic feet, according to Cars.com’s cargo measurements

What’s New on the 2022 Volkswagen Passat?

The Passat enters its final model year in the U.S. with a Limited Edition version featuring special 18-inch wheels, black mirror caps, sport seats finished in perforated leather, heated front and rear seats, navigation, a Fender premium stereo and special styling cues. Production is limited to 1,973 units, a figure that references the year the Passat launched in Germany.

What Features in the 2022 Volkswagen Passat Are Most Important?

Standard features include:

  • LED headlights and taillights
  • Power moonroof
  • Dual-zone automatic air conditioning
  • Simulated leather upholstery
  • Heated front seats
  • 6.3-inch touchscreen multimedia system
  • Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone connectivity
  • Forward collision warning
  • Automatic emergency braking
  • Blind spot warning with rear cross-traffic alert
  • Lane keep assist
  • Adaptive cruise control

Available features include:

  • 19-inch alloy wheels
  • Adaptive headlights
  • Automatic high-beam headlights

Should I Buy the 2022 Volkswagen Passat?

Despite entering its final model year, the Passat remains a viable family sedan thanks to its roomy interior, comfortable ride and easy car-seat installation. The Passat’s turbocharged four-cylinder engine is acceptable for around-town driving, but it doesn’t feel strong at highway speeds. Also, the standard touchscreen is small by today’s standards.

Awful car.. awful experience

New 2022 Passat purchased in December 2021. Brakes started grinding at 600 miles. Have taken to vw service 8 times. They resurfaced the rotors at 3k miles. Still not fixed and now in addition to the embarrassing loud grinding noise when braking the car shakes when braking. VW mechanics at Findlay VW in Vegas are still giving the same story of waiting on a fix from VW. They claim that the brake pads contain too much heavy metal and that’s causing the problem. Now I’m at 20k and the brakes are still messed up. They claim it’s safe to drive and there’s nothing they can do. I’m beyond fed up and this is beyond deceptive. It should be criminal. After new oil change oil was low and no sighns of leaking. Engine is sluggish as if turbo does not exist. All around terrible car.

needed a new engine in less than 11000 miles

BOUGHT THE 2022 LIMITED PASSAT BASED ON RELIABILITY AND VALUE FOR THE MONEY! at about 9000 miles I serviced the vehicle and asked to fix the check engine light and another indicator, at 10,300 miles the dealership informed me that the vehicle has a bad engine and needed to be replaced ! this car stayed in the shop for about a month the first year of ownership. good luck
