Toyota reentered the hot-hatch game in 2023 with all the subtlety of a WWE superstar strutting into the ring, with the 300-horsepower, all-wheel-drive GR Corolla ready to suplex the establishment right through the nearest table. For 2024, a new Premium trim splits the difference between the Core and Circuit trims; there’s no word yet on the return of the all-out, two-seat Morizo track maniac.

What’s New?
The Premium trim might be the new sweet spot in the GR Corolla lineup, as it includes front and rear Torsen limited-slip differentials and functional brake-cooling ducts. It also gets comfort features like an eight-speaker JBL audio system, wireless phone charging, heated front seats and steering wheel, and front and rear parking sensors.
With Great Power Comes Great Responsibility
A turbocharged 1.6-liter three-cylinder engine that makes 300 hp and 273 pounds-feet of torque powers all 2024 GR Corollas. It is paired exclusively with a six-speed manual transmission that sends power to a driver-adjustable AWD system.
Also standard is Toyota Safety Sense 3.0, which includes forward collision warning with pedestrian detection and automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, lane-centering steering assist, adaptive cruise control and road-sign recognition.
All 2024 GR Corollas also get an 8-inch touchscreen with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, as well as a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster that includes GR-specific displays like AWD mode, turbo pressure and a tachometer. In addition, the Core includes 18-inch wheels with Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tires and cloth seats with GR logos. The new Premium trim level’s Torsen differentials are optional on the Core via a Performance Package that also adds red brake calipers.
In addition to the Torsen diffs, red brake calipers and the aforementioned features, the Premium gets suede-trimmed seats. At the top of the line, the Circuit trim level gets a unique hood and rear spoiler, forged carbon-fiber roof, black 18-inch BBS wheels and a leather-wrapped shift knob with forged carbon-fiber accents.
Pricing and Availability
The 2024 Toyota GR Corolla will go on sale soon. Full line pricing, including $1,095 for delivery, is as follows:
- Core: $37,195
- Premium: $41,015
- Circuit: $45,835
Versus the Competition
For hot hatchbacks, 300 hp is an elite club. Pricing for the 2023 Volkswagen Golf R starts a fair bit higher than the GR Corolla at $45,835. The 2023 Honda Civic Type R’s turbo four cranks out 315 hp, but it’s front-wheel drive only, and pricing starts at $44,890. With “just” 271 hp, the Subaru WRX doesn’t match the GR Corolla’s output, but it’s significantly more affordable, with 2023 pricing starting at $31,625.
