What Is the 2025 Toyota Corolla?

The Toyota Corolla is available as a compact sedan or four-door hatchback. A 169-horsepower, 2.0-liter four-cylinder is standard and sends power to the front wheels via a continuously variable automatic transmission. A fuel-sipping hybrid version is available, returning up to an EPA-estimated 47 mpg in combined city/highway driving. The Corolla Hybrid is powered by a 1.8-liter four-cylinder that’s paired with an electric motor for a total output of 138 hp; it offers a choice of front- or all-wheel drive, with the latter version getting a second electric motor to power the rear wheels.

This sensible Toyota economy car also has a seriously wild side in the form of a high-performance, racetrack-tuned GR Corolla hatchback. Motivated by a 300-hp, turbo 1.6-liter three-cylinder that can be paired with a six-speed manual or eight-speed automatic transmission, it comes standard with AWD, a performance-tuned suspension and exclusive styling touches. The GR Corolla competes with the Honda Civic Type R, Hyundai Elantra N, Subaru WRX and Volkswagen Golf R.

What’s New on the 2025 Toyota Corolla?

The regular gas-engine Corolla sedan gets an FX trim for 2025 that adds specific exterior and interior trim details, such as satin-black 18-inch wheels and gray cloth seats with orange accent stitching. The FX also rides on a lowered suspension and features retuned power steering for a sportier feel. A 10.5-inch infotainment touchscreen is now available on pricier versions of the Corolla sedan and Corolla Hybrid in place of the standard 8-inch touchscreen.

The Toyota GR Corolla’s engine gets a rework that increases torque by 22 pounds-feet, to a total of 295 pounds-feet (output remains at 300 hp). An eight-speed automatic transmission is now offered in addition to the six-speed manual gearbox. Previously part of an option package, front and rear limited-slip differentials are now standard. The front fascia is restyled slightly to accommodate a new radiator and transmission cooler. Toyota also tuned the suspension to reduce squat during acceleration and improve tire grip in aggressive cornering.

What Features in the 2025 Toyota Corolla Are Most Important?

Standard features include:

  • 8-inch touchscreen multimedia system
  • Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
  • Satellite radio
  • Wi-Fi hot spot
  • Four USB ports
  • Automatic climate control
  • Lane departure warning
  • Lane departure steering assist
  • Adaptive cruise control
  • Traffic sign recognition
  • Automatic high-beam headlights

Available features include:

  • Alloy wheels
  • Push-button start
  • Power moonroof
  • Heated front seats
  • 10.5-inch touchscreen multimedia system
  • Wireless device charging
  • JBL premium stereo
  • Navigation
  • Blind spot warning
  • Rear cross-traffic alert

Should I Buy the 2025 Toyota Corolla?

In its standard sedan form, the Corolla is a sensible, no-nonsense choice for anyone who simply wants affordable, economical transportation. Performance is fine for routine driving needs, but rivals like the Honda Civic and Mazda3 feel livelier behind the wheel.  Don’t assume the Corolla is bare-bones, however — even the entry-level trim comes with a solid range of safety and tech features. The Corolla Hybrid is the mileage champ in the lineup, and the raucous GR Corolla is an absolute blast to drive if you’re willing to pay its significantly higher price tag and tolerate its stiffer ride. This wide variety makes the Corolla a highly adaptable pick for all kinds of driving needs and all kinds of budgets.

It’s kind of funny.

It’s kind of funny. It’s a Corolla Hybrid, but looks so sporty that I find a lot of people look to race me when the light turns green…it’s a Corolla, and it’s not quick…at all. But, that’s a testament to its appearance. It’s very nice looking in the SE trim. The performance and CVT are prohibitive to excitement, but it is economical and adequate for normal city and highway driving. The road noise is pretty bad, but the suspension supple and it absorbs road imperfections well. The seats in front and the rear are comfortable. It does lack storage space as well. The glove box is basically just big enough to hold your registration. The center console is very small as well. The base sound system is its biggest flaw. It is terrible. I don’t know if the upgraded stereo is much better or worth the upgrade, but with as much road noise as there is, a better/louder stereo is needed to hear the music and drown out the other noise. I am averaging about 44-45 MPG in the AWD SE Hybrid.
