What Is the 2019 Toyota 86?

The Toyota 86 (previously known as the Scion FR-S before Toyota discontinued the Scion brand) is a fun-to-drive four-seat sports coupe. It has rear-wheel drive, and power comes from a 205-horsepower, 2.0-liter horizontally opposed four-cylinder engine. The four-cylinder teams with a standard six-speed manual transmission or an available six-speed automatic (engine output drops to 200 hp with the automatic). Competitors include other small sports cars like the related Subaru BRZ, Mazda MX-5 Miata and Hyundai Veloster.

What's New on the 2019 Toyota 86?

A new TRD Special Edition joins the lineup for 2019. Limited to 1,418 copies, the TRD Special Edition features Brembo brakes, a TRD exhaust system, Sachs shocks, 18-inch alloy wheels with Michelin Pilot Sport 4 summer tires and a TRD body kit with TRD graphics. Inside, the black interior has red accents and a TRD logo.

What Features in the 2019 Toyota 86 Are Most Important?

The standard manual transmission is a joy to shift, and manual-equipped cars have a little extra power to boot. All models come standard with a 7-inch touchscreen multimedia system with Bluetooth streaming audio and USB connectivity. Built-in navigation is optional. Also available is dual-zone automatic climate control and keyless access with push-button start.

Should I Buy the 2019 Toyota 86?

First offered for the 2013 model year, this sports car that was co-developed by Toyota and Subaru is showing its age. Even so, while it's not as powerful as some sports cars, the 86 and related BRZ still deliver a rewarding, engaging driving experience. You just need to prefer handling finesse to brute power.

Great! But not perfect.

The car is doing ok, 2019 no problems. 2020 two problems, it’s aggravating! Having to wake up to go to work and having a dead battery.

Great car - fun to drive!

This is a really great little sportscar. I rarely see another one on the road, so it tends to turn heads. Very responsive. I recently took it on a road trip and the seats comfortably hugged my body. It's worth consideration in the mid-to-high $20s price range. Excellent value.
