If you want a Subaru Legacy, you won’t have much longer to get one. Subaru has announced that it will end production of its long-running Legacy sedan in spring 2025, when the last model-year 2025 Legacys will be produced.

Related: 2025 Subaru Legacy, Outback Mostly Unchanged; Priced From $26,040 and $30,290

The Legacy was an all-wheel-drive mid-size sedan (and previously, also a wagon) designed for the American market from the start, debuting in 1989 and becoming the first Subaru to be manufactured in the United States. Production has remained at Subaru’s Lafayette, Ind., plant ever since. Since then, the Legacy has become Subaru’s longest-running model line across six generations. According to Subaru, over 1.3 million Legacys have been sold in the U.S. alone, and over 94% of Legacys sold in the last decade remain on the road today.

The Outback, which will remain in production after 2025, was initially a more rugged, off-road-oriented trim of the Legacy wagon. Since then, it’s been spun off into its own separate nameplate of mildly lifted, cladded vehicles that further blur the line between wagons and crossovers.

Subaru’s decision to pare the Legacy from its model lineup comes amid its plans for more electrified vehicles throughout its model line and shifting consumer demand away from sedans and toward more SUVs. The company plans to offer eight electric-vehicle models by 2028, which is a big task for a smaller automaker.

More From Cars.com:

Pricing for the 2025 Legacy starts at $26,040, including destination. The 2025 model now offers a power moonroof, 11.6-inch infotainment touchscreen, driver attention monitor and heated steering wheel as standard equipment. It features a 182-horsepower, 2.5-liter flat-four as its base engine, with higher trims offering a 260-hp, 2.4-liter turbocharged flat-four.

Bought the Legacy Touring XT model.

Bought the Legacy Touring XT model. Previously owned Lexus and Infinitis, and this is a good or better than those cars. Smooth handling and responsive engine/ride. Dashboard is easier to use than expected. Nice connection to Airplay. Speakers are great. Safety systems are very good. Leather is luxurious. I would never have selected this car if I didn't already own a Forrester, which is also well built. I feel like I bought a luxury car for a 15K discount if not more
