Sales of the all-new, all-electric Porsche Macan are just getting underway, and already the brand is doubling the number of models in the lineup. To the previously announced 4 and Turbo trims, Porsche is adding an entry-level rear-wheel-drive Macan and splitting the difference between the 4 and Turbo with a new 4S for the 2025 model year.

Modularity in the Electrification Age
In retrospect, Porsche’s portfolio makes it seem like the brand has been preparing for electrification for decades. Consider the 911 line, in which a single body style was available in the base Carrera form, the powered-up S, all-wheel-drive Carrera 4 and more potent 4S — not to mention GTS, Turbo, Turbo S and GT/RS derivatives. That mixing and matching of engines and drivetrain layouts is a hallmark of electric vehicles.
The new base 2025 Macan uses the same rear-mounted electric motor as the existing Macan 4 but ditches the 4’s front motor, saving 243 pounds and dropping output to 335 horsepower. With launch control, the motor can produce up to 355 hp and 415 pounds-feet of torque; that’s down 47 hp and 64 pounds-feet on the AWD Macan 4, but it will no doubt improve range — and with a base price of $77,295 (all prices include $1,995 destination), the Macan undercuts the 4 by $3,155.
Buyers looking for more power than the 4 can manage but don’t need the Turbo’s output have the new 4S. It retains the same front motor as the 4 and Turbo, but swaps out the rear motor for one that brings total output up to 442 hp, with launch control enabling spurts of 509 hp and 578 pounds-feet of torque. Pricing for the 4S starts at $86,895.
Addressing the ‘U’ in ‘SUV’ … or Not
Porsche also announced a new off-road package that will be available with any 2025 Macan powertrain. It gets a revised front end for an increased approach angle with a 0.4-inch increase in ground clearance with the air springs in their normal setting, to 7.6 inches. There is no change to maximum ground clearance, which remains the same 8.8 inches as in other Macan EVs.
Given the minimal mechanical difference, the appearance of the off-road package will likely be of more interest to buyers. With it, the front bumper, side sills and roof rails are finished in either gray or the same color as the body. Buyers choosing the monochromatic look also get color-matched lower door trim and the choice of black or silver roof rails. On the Macan Turbo, Porsche’s Turbonite metallic gray is also an option for the roof rails.
