The high-performance, high-dollar 2024 Nissan GT-R is getting some visual and performance updates ahead of its arrival later this year. With a nickname as intimidating as its six-figure price tag, the “Godzilla” GT-R sees a handful of exterior tweaks for improved aerodynamics, a new limited-slip differential for the range-topping NISMO, and the return of the T-spec special-edition trim.

Updated Exterior Preps for Takeoff

The 2024 GT-R gets an updated front and rear end to optimize performance and aerodynamics: The changes include a new grille with a thinner mesh, updated bumper sides and a reshaped rear wing. All the updates aim to increase downforce, reduce drag and improve the car’s handling, says Nissan. Special attention is given to the GT-R NISMO’s exterior with a new front lip, rear diffuser and a rear wing with 10% more surface area than the outgoing model’s.

NISMO Enhanced for the Track

All GT-R variants are powered by a twin-turbocharged 3.8-liter V-6 engine mated to a dual-clutch six-speed automatic transmission. Nissan’s electronically controlled all-wheel-drive system also comes standard. But while the lesser Premium and T-spec trims produce 565 horsepower and 467 pounds-feet of torque, the motorsport-inspired NISMO ups those figures to 600 hp and 481 pounds-feet. When last updated in 2020, the NISMO received new turbochargers, carbon-ceramic brakes, unique suspension tuning and more carbon-fiber parts. For 2024, Nissan says it has added a limited-slip differential to the variant for the first time to further optimize performance and improve responsiveness.

Visually, the 2024 GT-R NISMO sees the addition of an exclusive Stealth Gray paint color and an appearance package that adds red accents to its forged 20-inch wheels, a clear coat over its carbon-fiber hood and a unique engine-cover design. Inside, the NISMO gets trim-exclusive appointments like Recaro seats with synthetic-suede inserts, red stitching and a red-accented Alcantara steering wheel.

T-Spec Resurrected

Last offered as a special edition in 2021, the GT-R’s T-spec trim makes a comeback for 2024 with NISMO-infused features and unique visual cues to set it apart from the base GT-R. Slotting between the Premium and the NISMO, the new T-spec borrows several features from the range-topping trim including its carbon-ceramic brakes and a NISMO-tuned vehicle dynamic control system. It also comes with a gold-painted version of the NISMO’s 20-inch wheels and wider front fenders.

The T-spec is further set apart with unique badging and Mori Green interior upholstery. Two heritage-inspired exterior paint colors — Millennium Jade and Midnight Purple — will once again return as exclusive options for the T-spec; the pair pays homage to the R34-generation GT-R, which was introduced in 1998.

Pricing and Release Date

The 2024 Nissan GT-R Premium and T-spec will arrive spring 2023, and the NISMO is expected to follow in the summer. Pricing for the updated sports car has not yet been announced, but shoppers should expect starting prices to increase over the 2023 GT-R. The current model starts at $115,435 for the Premium and $212,635 for the NISMO (all prices include destination). The GT-R’s rivals include the performance-oriented Porsche 911 Carrera S and Chevrolet Corvette Z06, which start at $124,450 and $106,695, respectively. Nissan shoppers looking for a more affordable sports car can consider the recently reintroduced Nissan Z, which has a starting price of $41,015.
