our expert's take

What Is the 2024 Mitsubishi Outlander?

The Mitsubishi Outlander is a compact SUV with three rows of seating for up to seven people, though the third row is only big enough for small children. The gasoline-only Outlander is powered by a 181-horsepower, 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine, while Outlander PHEVs use a plug-in hybrid powertrain that pairs the 2.4-liter engine with two electric motors to make a combined 248 hp. Both versions come with a continuously variable automatic transmission. The conventional Outlander comes with front- or all-wheel drive, while the PHEV is AWD-only. Outlander competitors include the Honda CR-V, Hyundai Tucson, and Toyota RAV4

What’s New on the 2024 Mitsubishi Outlander?

Like all 2024 Mitsubishi models, the Outlander and Outlander PHEV now come with two years of limited free maintenance. The new Platinum Edition features Black Diamond paint with a contrasting Alloy Silver roof along with special trim inside and out. SEL Black Edition variants get additional blacked-out trim.

What Features in the 2024 Mitsubishi Outlander Are Most Important?

Standard features include:

  • Front-wheel drive
  • Third row of seating
  • 18-inch alloy wheels
  • 8-inch touchscreen
  • Android Auto and wireless Apple CarPlay
  • Dual-zone climate control
  • Bluetooth connectivity
  • Automatic high-beam headlights
  • Remote keyless entry

Available features include:

  • All-wheel drive
  • Massaging front seats
  • Heated seats front and rear
  • Heated steering wheel
  • 9-inch touchscreen
  • 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster
  • Navigation
  • Leather upholstery
  • Head-up display
  • Power moonroof
  • Power liftgate

Should I Buy the 2024 Mitsubishi Outlander?

A 2022 redesign based on the Nissan Rogue compact SUV transformed the Outlander, adding improved all-around refinement, interior room and tech features to make it fully competitive with more established class leaders. The Outlander is also one of a very few compact SUVs with a third row, but the seats back there are too small for most anyone but kids of a single-digit age. Competitive pricing and a longer warranty than most competitors are also pluses, and the PHEV version allows for up to 38 miles of driving solely on electric power.

Although the vehicle is not perfect I have not been in any brand that has.The vehicle is actually stylish and vehicle is comfortable I downloaded the app and to date it does work fine.I have owned the vehicle for 4 months now so only time will tell. I appreciate the 5 year bumper to bumper warranty as well as the 10 yr drive traine warranty which also includes the battery and 2 electric motors

Horrendously designed vehicle and atrocious software.

Horrendously designed vehicle and atrocious software. One cannot use ANY of the remote functions as car will not connect with full 5G signal. Very cheaply made, interior materials are thin, plasticky and easily damaged. Absolutely not a family car, cramped and easily worn/damaged interior. Extremely poor performance on snow - the most “squirrelly” vehicle Ive ever driven. Mitsubishi Canada is being sued due to poor battery performance in cold weather. The suspension reminds me of my Ford F350 truck- stiff and uncomfortable, they should have done much better. The CHademo charger is an obsolete system in the USA - good luck finding a charger station with it. Car will lock itself with keys inside and will not let remote unlock work, one must use the 2nd physical key to open it. This car is so poorly constructed in so many areas, I hate myself for buying it. I am Japanese and really wanted to support them but this car is a complete farce.
