What Is the 2020 Mini Countryman?

The Countryman, a five-seat subcompact SUV, is Mini’s largest model. It comes with a choice of turbocharged engines and front- or all-wheel drive. The base Countryman has a 134-horsepower, turbo 1.5-liter three-cylinder, the S gets a 189-hp, turbo 2.0-liter four-cylinder, and the performance-oriented John Cooper Works gets a new 301-hp, turbo 2.0-liter four-cylinder. Mini also sells the S E Countryman, which has a plug-in hybrid drivetrain. Competitors include the Audi Q3 and BMW X1.

What’s New on the 2020 Mini Countryman?

S and higher versions now have LED foglights and headlights, and the performance-focused John Cooper Works model gets a boost in power with a new turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine rated at 301 hp that teams with an eight-speed automatic transmission. Meanwhile, front-drive models have a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission, while all-wheel-drive versions use an eight-speed automatic. The plug-in hybrid S E Countryman gets greater battery capacity that increases its EPA-estimated all-electric range on a full charge from 12 to 17 miles.

What Features in the 2020 Mini Countryman Are Most Important?

With a powertrain for any preference, including a plug-in hybrid, the largest Mini has plenty of style and technology to stand out in the crowded class.

Should I Buy the 2020 Mini Countryman?

With sporty handling, stylish European looks and various customization options, there isn’t much else in the class like a Mini. It can get expensive with all the option packages, however.
