Most significant changes: John Cooper Works version gets higher top speed; lane departure warning standard for all versions

Pricing: $29,950 (with destination) to start; all trims carry over

On sale: Now

Which should you buy, 2021 or 2022? Opt for the 2022 model to get standard lane departure warning across all trims without a price hike.

Mini updated its Countryman for 2021 with tweaked styling, upgraded technology and a new plug-in hybrid model. The brand’s largest SUV gets only minor changes for 2022, including a higher top speed for the sportiest John Cooper Works version, plus more safety features. Prices carry over from the 2021 model year.

The 2022 Mini Countryman starts at $29,950 (prices include destination) for the entry level Classic model in front-drive trim, same as the outgoing model. The all-wheel-drive version likewise remains at $31,950. For 2022, the Countryman’s trims and models carry over, including the sportier S and John Cooper Works versions.

Aside from the Countryman’s pricing carrying over across all trims, there’s more good news in the safety department: All models now include a lane departure warning system for 2022, and the Signature and Iconic trim packages of the John Cooper Works Countryman also now offer both the Driver Assistance and optional Convenience packages. The Driver Assist Package includes park assist, a head-up display and Mini’s Active Cruise Control system. The Convenience Package includes an alarm system, storage package and picnic cushion.

A 12-month subscription to satellite radio is another addition for all versions of the Countryman, and the John Cooper Works’ top speed increases to 155 mph from the prior 149 mph.

The 2022 Mini Countryman is on sale now.

Fun to Drive but not worth the money.

Uncomfortable and loud, poor radio speakers. Average gas mileage, 33mpg. Fun to drive but not worth the price. Long hesitation when leaving from a stop light. Good brakes, A/C works well. Wipers are a crazy mess of trying to run them.
