What Is the 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLS-Class?

The 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLS-Class is a full-size SUV that seats up to seven people in three rows. It’s powered by a 375-horsepower, turbocharged inline-six (GLS450) or a 510-hp, twin-turbo V-8 (GLS580). The ultra-luxury Maybach GLS600 and high-performance AMG GLS63 get a twin-turbo V-8 with 550 and 603 hp, respectively. All GLS models come standard with all-wheel drive. There’s enough room for adults in all three rows, which isn’t always the case even in extra-large SUVs. A digital instrument panel sits flush with the infotainment screen, creating an attractive display that takes a lot of practice to learn. GLS competitors include the BMW X7, Audi Q7, Cadillac Escalade, Jeep Grand Wagoneer and Porsche Cayenne.

What’s New on the 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLS-Class?

All GLS trims get styling updates, including a larger grille, revised front bumper and new LED taillights, while the performance-focused AMG and ultra-luxury Maybach versions get model-specific trim revisions inside and out. All models now come with the latest version of Mercedes-Benz’s MBUX infotainment system and a customizable digital instrument cluster with a choice of three display layouts. A new “transparent hood” feature in off-road mode uses the surround-view camera system to provide a view underneath the vehicle. The GLS450 and GLS580 both receive a bit more power: The GLS450’s 375-hp rating represents a 13-hp bump over last year, while the GLS580’s 510-hp rating is a 27-hp bump.

What Features in the 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLS-Class Are Most Important?

Standard features include:

  • Synthetic leather upholstery
  • 12.3-inch digital instrument panel
  • 12.3-inch infotainment screen
  • Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
  • Navigation
  • Satellite radio
  • 13-speaker Burmester stereo system
  • Panoramic moonroof
  • Wireless device charging

Should I Buy the 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLS-Class?

The Mercedes-Benz GLS-Class is a very luxurious way to transport lots of people and all their luggage from point A to point B. With powerful engines and a commanding view of the road, the GLS has tons of road presence; it feels worth its admittedly high asking price. Other than some quirky voice commands and its fuel-guzzling thirst, there are few things to nitpick in Mercedes’ largest SUV.

I’ve had nothing but frustration with my 2024 Mercedes

I’ve had nothing but frustration with my 2024 Mercedes GLS 480, and I feel obligated to warn other potential buyers. Since purchasing the car, I've had to bring it in 7 times for repairs, spending a total of 43 days in the shop within a few month period. The primary issue has been the transmission, with the car continuously shifting hard between gears, jerking while driving, and failing to shift smoothly. Despite multiple attempts to fix it—including discussing replacing the engine and transmission mounts, performing downshift adaptations, and following Mercedes-Benz’s TIPS instructions—the problem persists. What’s even worse is that after paying nearly $100,000 for this car, it's lost significant value without any resolution to the problems. I can’t help but feel I’ve thrown away my money on a car that constantly requires service with no lasting fix. As if the transmission issues weren't enough, the lack of basic features is also frustrating. I was shocked to find out that my car doesn't even have remote start on the key fob—something I expected, especially for the price. Instead, I’m forced to pay even more for a yearly subscription to an app to use this basic function. Why does a car that costs as much as mine not come with this simple convenience? To make matters worse, Mercedes-Benz refused my buyback request under my state’s lemon laws. After months of service visits and communication with customer care, I was told my case didn’t qualify, and I was left with no option but to continue bringing it back to the dealership for repairs. It’s incredibly frustrating to keep hearing that “we’ll fix it” when nothing actually gets fixed. This experience has been a huge disappointment, and I would strongly advise anyone considering a Mercedes-Benz to think twice. I’m stuck with a car that doesn’t work properly, lacks basic features, and has lost substantial value. For $100,000, I expected a luxury vehicle that at least functions as advertised.

Great SUV

My 2 honest cents. Just bought the 2024 GLS 450 and it has a huge presence on road and it looks stunning! I went with the AMG exterior package and it looks way better than the base model. Ride quality is good, very smooth ride on freeways but you do feel small bumps on occasional city roads. The engine is good but I wish it had a bit more power, feels little laggy at low speeds but when you floor it it moves fast and steering is very responsive. On the other hand, cabin very silent tho and you barely get to hear road noise (without acoustic package). The Mileage is incredible on this, wasn't expecting to write about it but the GLS gives better mileage than my GLC. Interiors are amazing and is something no other manufacturer in this segment can match (especially at night with ambient lights), seats are super comfy and the infotainment screens are also crisp. Overall, love this SUV and i'm gonna keep it for a while.
