After announcing a freshening for its GLC Coupe, Mercedes-Benz has unveiled a sweeping suite of updates for its two smallest SUV offerings, the 2024 GLB and GLA. Both models will feature updated exterior styling, new technology and electrified mild-hybrid powertrains.

The exterior styling for the GLA and GLB gets minor tweaks for the 2024 model year. Both models receive a revised front bumper with a new radiator grille and standard LED headlights; out back, they get standard LED taillights. Buyers will also get new 18- and 20-inch wheel options to choose from, and a new Spectral Blue Metallic joins the exterior color lineup. These updates also apply to the AMG variants, but the AMG logo is now mounted on the hood, and new 19- and 20-inch alloy wheels are available.

The interiors for both models have also been updated for the 2024 model year. The cabin now features two 10.25-inch screens: a central one for the latest MBUX infotainment system, which now features standard wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and voice controls, and a second screen for fully digital instrumentation. The steering wheel comes with standard Nappa leather, and the AMG Line Package’s interior now has an optional heated steering wheel; AMG models have a redesigned steering wheel. Also newly standard are high-beam assist, a 360-degree camera, active parking assist, and the Mirror and Keyless Go packages.

Performance for the base 2024 GLA and GLB comes from a 221-horsepower, turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that now features a 48-volt mild-hybrid system, which temporarily adds 13 more horsepower during acceleration and allows for the combustion engine to power off for coasting. Meanwhile, AMG variants get an upgraded 302-hp, turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder with the same mild-hybrid system. Mercedes-Benz claims the AMG GLA35 and GLB35 trims can make the sprint to 60 mph in 5.1 and 5.4 seconds, respectively. The GLA and GLB come with a standard nine-speed automatic transmission, while the AMG variants get an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic. Front-wheel drive is standard on the GLA220 and GLB250; all-wheel drive is standard on the GLA250 and available on the GLB250. AMG models get AWD standard.

Pricing and Release Date

Mercedes hasn’t released pricing information for the 2024 GLA and GLB, but look for them to carry price tags that are a little more than the outgoing model. The 2023 GLA250 currently starts at $38,650 (all prices include the $1,150 destination charge), and the GLB250 starts at $40,950. Both 2024 models will be making their way to U.S. showrooms later this year.
