lexus gx 550 overtrail 2025 exterior oem 01 jpg

Wholly redesigned for the 2024 model year, the Lexus GX 550 rolls into 2025 mostly unchanged. With standard luxury equipment, including heated and ventilated front seats, as well as full-time four-wheel drive with a locking center differential and available electronically disconnecting stabilizer bars, the GX is among the cushiest off-roaders on sale. Starting at $65,285 for 2025, its base price climbs $1,035 from the 2024 model’s pricing (all pricing includes $1,350 destination fee).

Related: 2024 Lexus GX 550 Review: Go Anywhere, Do Anything

The extra cash nets buyers of the 2025 Lexus GX 550 newly standard driver-seat memory settings incorporating the power tilt/telescoping steering column. Off-road capability is a focus for every GX trim level, but the particularly hardcore Overtrail and Overtrail+ trims now include a 1-inch suspension lift (for 9.8 inches of ground clearance), an onboard air compressor and prewired auxiliary switches for aftermarket accessories. Their prices increase by approximately $3,000.

Powertrain Specs and MPG

A twin-turbocharged 3.4-liter V-6 engine propels the GX with 349 horsepower and 479 pounds-feet of torque; it’s bolted to a 10-speed automatic transmission. The limited-slip locking center differential is standard on every GX, but only the Overtrail trims also feature a standard locking rear diff for greater traction off-road.

Driving all four wheels all the time means the GX 550 is thirsty; Lexus says it returns the same EPA-rated 15/21/17 mpg city/highway/combined as the 2024 model (official figures for the 2025 model are not yet available).

Availability and Pricing

The 2025 Lexus GX 550 will arrive at dealerships in early 2025. Pricing is as follows:

  • Premium: $65,285
  • Premium+: $69,750
  • Luxury: $77,750
  • Luxury+: $81,750
  • Overtrail: $72,930
  • Overtrail+: $80,395

Safety Features and Trim Levels

Lexus Safety System+ 3.0 is standard on the 2025 GX 550 and includes forward collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, oncoming vehicle alert, emergency steering assist, lane departure warning and steering assist, lane-centering steering, adaptive cruise control and road-sign recognition. Blind spot monitors, rear cross-traffic alert, and front and rear parking sensors with automatic braking are also standard.

The entry-level GX 550 Premium rides on 20-inch wheels and includes LED headlights, a power liftgate, power moonroof, and keyless entry and start. It’s upholstered in synthetic leather and features power-adjustable heated and ventilated front seats, a 10-speaker sound system, ambient lighting and a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster. Infotainment is handled through a 14-inch touchscreen with navigation and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Pay for the “+” on the Premium trim and you’ll get LED foglights, a 360-degree camera system, rear pedestrian detection and a hands-free power liftgate. The Premium+ cabin is upgraded with heated outboard second-row seats (heated second-row captain’s chairs are available, dropping seating capacity to six), a heated steering wheel, power-folding third row and wireless phone charger.

All of the Premium+ features are standard on the Luxury trim level, as are massaging, semi-aniline leather front seats, second-row window shades, puddle lamps and 22-inch wheels. The Luxury+ adds adaptive shock absorbers, a panoramic glass roof, power-deployable running boards and a 21-speaker Mark Levinson sound system.

Aimed at hardcore off-road adventurers, the Overtrail trims ditch the third-row seat to provide more room for overlanding gear. The standard Overtrail trim also forgoes much of the GX’s available luxury gear, largely mirroring the base GX Premium but adding windshield-wiper de-icers and headlight washers. In addition to 360-degree visibility for parking, the Overtrail trims also feature Lexus’s Multi-Terrain Monitor, which includes additional camera views to aid maneuvering and wheel placement off-road.

For greater backcountry capability, the Overtrail is fitted with adaptive dampers, electronically disconnecting front and rear stabilizer bars, and the locking rear differential. Riding on 18-inch wheels wearing 33-inch all-terrain tires, it gains Lexus’s Multi-Terrain Select off-road driving modes and crawl control, a sort of low-speed off-road cruise control. Upgrading to the Overtrail+ adds back in much of the luxury content the base Overtrail forfeits, including the massaging front seats, but not the third row. (That’s where your tent goes — or on the roof.) The Overtrails are the only GXs that can be ordered without a moonroof for safer rooftop tent installation.
