What Is the 2021 Kia Stinger?

The Kia Stinger is a five-seat mid-size hatchback with aggressive coupelike styling. It’s powered by a standard 255-horsepower, turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine or an optional 365-hp, twin-turbo 3.3-liter V-6. Both engines work with an eight-speed automatic transmission, and rear- and all-wheel-drive versions are offered. Competitors include the Alfa Romeo Giulia, Audi A4 and Genesis G70.

What’s New on the 2021 Kia Stinger?

There are no significant changes this year.

What Features in the 2021 Kia Stinger Are Most Important?

Standard features include:

  • 18-inch alloy wheels
  • Leather seating surfaces
  • Heated front seats
  • 7-inch touchscreen multimedia system
  • Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone connectivity
  • Wireless device charging
  • Dual-zone automatic air conditioning
  • Blind spot warning with rear cross-traffic alert

Available features include:

  • Nappa leather upholstery
  • Ventilated front seats
  • Heated rear seats
  • Navigation with 8-inch touchscreen
  • Harman Kardon premium stereo
  • 360-degree camera system
  • Head-up display
  • Automatic emergency braking
  • Lane-keeping assist
  • Adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability

Should I Buy the 2021 Kia Stinger?

The Stinger mimics the style and performance of sedans from dedicated luxury brands — but for a fraction of the price. The performance of its optional V-6 engine, roomy cargo area and easy-to-use multimedia system are highlights, but the car’s swoopy design hurts outward visibility.

Fabulous Except For One Flaw

The Stinger GT Line (4 Cylinder Turbo) is fabulous. It has plenty of get up and go. When merging onto a highway, you look at the speedometer and you can't believe how quickly you have hit 100 MPH. The MPG at only 22 is a little disappointing. However, I do usually cruise at about 80. Reliability with the exception of one thing (which I will get to) has been excellent. I am 6' 1" tall, so getting in and out of the Stinger without bagging your head is a little difficult (that is why I only gave 4 stars instead of 5 for Comfort). I do regret not going for the little extra cost and buying the GT (instead of the GT Line). The GT does have a few extra standard options which I now wish I had. Now.... the only real negative about the vehicle. I took delivery on March 1, 2021 and since that day... still until today (July 19, 2023) my Apple CarPlay will NOT stay engaged in the vehicle. Sometimes it does not engage at all. Sometimes, just for a short while. Sometimes constantly engaged and disengaging. Sometimes, it engages for the first leg of a trip and not for the return leg of the trip. Sometimes it engages for days and then, it does not engage for days. There is no rhyme or reason for whether it will or will not engage. Kia has changed the radio, the USB Port (this is WIRED [NOT wireless] Bluetooth and Apple CarPlay) and the radio harness. They cannot find a fix. Kia has admitted that they there is a problem and the Engineers are working on it. This has been an ongoing problem for more than 2 years. This is the major reason why I have not rated the vehicle 5 out of 4 stars.

Best Car I’ve Ever Owned

Drives great. Looks awesome. Is roomy and practical because of hatchback design & back seats that fold down.I get lots of compliments and I’ve had people mistake it for a Porsche Panamera, a Jaguar.
