What Is the 2025 Kia EV9?

The Kia EV9 is an all-electric, three-row mid-size SUV that’s roughly the same size and shape as Kia’s gas-powered Telluride SUV. The EV9’s base trim level, the Light, uses a single electric motor to drive the rear wheels, while the rest of the lineup has electric motors front and rear for all-wheel drive. Most other three-row electric SUVs (including the Tesla Model X and Rivian R1S) start some $20,000 higher than the EV9. The Volkswagen ID. Buzz electric minivan, however, also has three rows, and more three-row EVs (including the Hyundai Ioniq 9) are slated to arrive in the near future. Buyers looking for a similar-size SUV who are willing to sacrifice the third row can also check out the Chevrolet Blazer EV and Honda Prologue.

What’s New on the 2025 Kia EV9?

The Kia EV9 was all-new for 2024, so nothing much changes for 2025, though most trim levels are a few hundred bucks cheaper.

How Much Range Does the 2025 Kia EV9 Have?

The Kia EV9’s EPA-estimated driving range runs from 230-304 miles, depending on battery pack and trim.

How Long Does it Take to Charge the 2025 Kia EV9?

With its smaller battery pack, the EV9 Light needs an estimated 6 hours, 45 minutes to charge on a standard 240-volt Level 2 charger, while the rest of the lineup needs an estimated 8 hours, 45 minutes to replenish their larger batteries. On a 350-kilowatt DC fast charger in optimal conditions, the Light can recharge in as little as 20 minutes; other EV9s need 24 minutes.

What Features in the 2025 Kia EV9 Are Most Important?

Standard features include:

  • Synthetic leather upholstery
  • Power-adjustable driver’s seat
  • Heated and ventilated front seats
  • 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster
  • 12.3-inch touchscreen
  • Navigation
  • Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
  • Forward collision warning
  • Pedestrian and bicyclist detection
  • Automatic emergency braking
  • Intersection and oncoming traffic detection
  • Lane departure steering assist
  • Emergency steering assist
  • Blind spot warning
  • Rear cross-traffic alert
  • Hands-on semi-autonomous highway driving
  • Front and rear parking sensors

Available features include:

  • Bidirectional charging
  • Massaging driver’s seat
  • Heated and ventilated rear seats
  • 14-speaker Meridian premium audio system
  • 360-degree camera system
  • Blind spot cameras
  • Head-up display
  • Automated parking

Should I Buy the 2025 Kia EV9?

With an adult-friendly third row and an interior that readily accommodates child seats, the EV9 is a solid choice for a family EV — and you can drive your family confidently knowing it’s an Insurance Institute for Highway Safety Top Safety Pick. On the downside, we added one to our long-term test fleet and found it can get tight inside on longer family road trips with everyone’s gear stuffed inside. And while the EV9 can tow up to 5,000 pounds, the weight of a trailer seriously impacts its driving range — as is true in any EV. Still, while the EV9 might struggle in those more occasional tasks, we’ve been happy with it in daily use.
