What Is the 2023 Hyundai Santa Fe?

The Santa Fe is a five-seat mid-size SUV that competes with the Ford Edge, Honda Passport and Toyota Venza. There are five trim levels available: SE, SEL, XRT, Limited and Calligraphy.

The standard engine is a 191-horsepower, 2.5-liter four-cylinder that sends power to the front wheels via an eight-speed automatic transmission. All-wheel drive is optional. Upper trims (Limited and Calligraphy) come with a 281-hp, turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder coupled to an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic. Hybrid and plug-in hybrid variants are also available.

The Hyundai Santa Fe offers 25.3 cubic feet of cargo space behind its backseat, according to Cars.com’s cargo measurements. You can see how it scored in our Car Seat Check here.

What’s New on the 2023 Hyundai Santa Fe?

The 2023 Hyundai Santa Fe rolls into a new model year with only a little reshuffling of features among trims and option packages. For example, a power-operated liftgate, rear sunshades and dual-zone climate control are now standard on SEL and XRT trims.

What Features in the 2023 Hyundai Santa Fe Are Most Important?

Standard features include:

  • LED automatic headlights
  • Cloth upholstery
  • 60/40-split folding and reclining backseat
  • 8-inch touchscreen multimedia system
  • Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone connectivity
  • Adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability
  • Four USB ports
  • 18-inch alloy wheels
  • Blind spot warning and rear cross-traffic alert
  • Automatic high-beam headlights
  • Lane keeping assist

Available features include:

  • Power-folding side mirrors
  • Panoramic moonroof
  • Leather-trimmed seats
  • Heated and ventilated front seats
  • Heated rear seats
  • 25-inch touchscreen with navigation
  • Harman Kardon premium stereo
  • Wireless device charging
  • 360-degree camera system
  • Head-up instrument display
  • 3-inch digital instrument cluster

Should I Buy the 2023 Hyundai Santa Fe?

The Santa Fe delivers the passenger and cargo space that car shoppers want in a mid-size SUV. While the standard four-cylinder is fine for routine driving, the turbocharged 2.5-liter engine has notably stronger acceleration, especially during highway passing maneuvers. However, the eight-speed dual-clutch automatic that’s paired with the turbo engine delivered some low-speed jerkiness and awkward shifts during our time with it. In the plus column, having both hybrid and plug-in hybrid models in the range makes the Santa Fe appealing to SUV shoppers who’d like to avoid SUV fuel bills. A long lineup of standard active safety features further boosts the Santa Fe’s credentials.
