What Is the 2023 Honda Passport?

The 2023 Honda Passport is a two-row mid-size SUV that shares a platform and powertrain with Honda’s three-row Pilot. While the Passport lacks third-row seats, its cargo area is extremely generous. Every Passport is equipped with a 280-horsepower, 3.5-liter V-6, a nine-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive. The available TrailSport trim adds a more rugged look and a little more off-road prowess, though rock crawling isn’t exactly one of the Passport’s star qualities. Thankfully, a smooth ride and nimble steering make the Passport a user-friendly choice for anyone who prefers to limit their driving adventures to paved surfaces. Competitors include the Nissan Murano, Ford Edge and Hyundai Santa Fe

What’s New on the 2023 Honda Passport?

The Passport received a styling refresh and an off-road-themed TrailSport trim level last year. Other than the discontinuation of front-wheel-drive models (all Passports are now AWD), there are no notable changes for 2023.

What Features in the 2023 Honda Passport Are Most Important?

Standard features include:

  • 8-inch touchscreen
  • Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
  • Tri-zone climate control
  • Remote start
  • Honda Sensing suite of active safety features
  • Heated front seats
  • LED headlights
  • Four USB ports
  • Wireless device charging

Available features include:

  • Leather seating surfaces
  • Hands-free power liftgate
  • Heated and ventilated front seats
  • Heated rear seats
  • Navigation
  • Power moonroof
  • Rear cross-traffic alert
  • Blind spot warning

Should I Buy the 2023 Honda Passport?

The Honda Passport is worth consideration if you’re looking for a spacious mid-size SUV that’s easy to drive, has plenty of power and prioritizes cargo volume. Granted, the base price is steep, and even the outdoorsy TrailSport trim has its limitations when it comes to serious off-road driving. But for most SUV shoppers, the Passport’s combination of driving comfort and long roster of standard safety features will matter more than any lack of rock-crawling or mud-slinging capabilities.

2023 Honda Passport Trail Sport

Made in Lincoln, Alabama, this car may be Japanese in name, but built in the USA. Craftsmanship, fit and finishing are excellent. Car arrived in perfect condition. Just an amazing value, nice being in a full-size vehicle that runs on regular. The V6 is quiet and has lots of pep. Lots of room for passengers and all your stuff. Amazing vehicle, that gets the job done.

Hidden gem

I’ve only had the 2023 Honda Passport Trailsport for a brief time but have found it to be a great vehicle. The V6 engine delivers excellent acceleration with its 280hp and it sounds great. A real step up from most competitors in this class that use 4 cylinder turbocharged engines. Now the mpg is not as strong, but I have averaged 19/26 which is quite good for a vehicle this size. It uses regular unleaded which is also a money saver. Love how the Trailsport drives, good handling, smooth, yet you don’t feel like you are behind the wheel of a minivan or a car. Feels powerful with great visibility like a truck. The interior room is great, unmatched in the class. Tons of legroom in the second row of seats and the back has lots of space. The vehicle comes with all the usual technology, including safety items, but Honda has kept it simple and intuitive to use. If in the market for a mid size suv, the passport is a hidden gem that flies a bit under the radar.
