What Is the 2023 Honda Odyssey?

The front-wheel-drive Honda Odyssey minivan seats up to eight in three rows. Power comes from a standard 280-horsepower, 3.5-liter V-6 engine that pairs with a 10-speed automatic transmission. Competitors include the Chrysler Pacifica, Kia Carnival and Toyota Sienna.

The Odyssey offers 41.6 cubic feet of cargo space behind its second row and 21.1 cubic feet behind the third, according to Cars.com’s cargo measurements. You can see how it scored in our Car Seat Check here.

What’s New on the 2023 Honda Odyssey?

The entry-level LX trim has been discontinued, leaving the EX as the cheapest Odyssey, though it starts about $4,500 more than the LX did. New is a mid-range Sport model with gloss-black exterior accents, distinctive 19-inch wheels, black leather upholstery with contrasting red stitching, and red ambient cabin lighting. All Odysseys now come with complimentary factory-scheduled maintenance for two years or 24,000 miles.

What Features in the 2023 Honda Odyssey Are Most Important?

Standard features include:

  • LED headlights
  • Push-button start
  • Remote start
  • Heated mirrors
  • Tri-zone automatic climate control
  • 8-inch touchscreen multimedia system
  • Satellite radio
  • Power-adjustable front seats
  • Heated front seats
  • Power-sliding side doors
  • Bluetooth streaming audio
  • Honda Sensing suite of active-safety features
  • Blind spot warning with rear cross-traffic alert
  • Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone connectivity

Available features include:

  • Power liftgate
  • Power moonroof
  • Leather-trimmed seats
  • Heated and ventilated front seats
  • Heated steering wheel
  • Navigation system
  • Wireless device charging
  • Rear-seat entertainment system
  • Camera-based rear-seat monitoring system
  • CabinTalk intercom system
  • Front and rear parking sensors

Should I Buy the 2023 Honda Odyssey?

The Odyssey is a sensible family hauler that should satisfy those who need lots of seating, lots of cargo space or a combination of the two. Its car-like driving manners and ease of entry and exit make it a practical alternative to a high-riding SUV — so long as you don’t need a lot of towing capability; the Odyssey is rated to tow 3,500 pounds when properly equipped. Unlike the Pacifica and Sienna, the Odyssey doesn’t offer all-wheel drive.

Disappointed

I had a 2007 Honda. Odyssenoy, that was a lot better quality. They move the events in the back from the top to the mid section, which is not good. You can tell the quality car is cheap.

Very Reliable and a Great Value for the Money

This is my second Honda Odyssey Elite having traded in my 2019 for a 2023. Why did I make the trade? I hadn't had any problems with my 2019, but the trade in value of my 2019 made the purchase of a 2023 a "no brainer". I had considered purchasing a Toyota Sienna Platinum because of the fuel economy. But the price of the Toyota was so much higher than the Honda, especially when you consider that the Rear Seat Entertainment System costs extra on the Toyota and dealers are adding premiums above MSRP. I calculated I would have to drive the a Toyota around 80,000 miles before I would actually begin saving money on gasoline.
