What Is the 2023 Honda Civic?

The 2023 Honda Civic is a nimble, fuel-sipping compact car that’s fun to drive and kind to your budget. Following a complete redesign for the 2022 model year, the Civic remains available as a sedan or hatchback, with the latter version holding an edge in overall cargo capacity. Its base 158-horsepower, 2.0-liter four-cylinder is fine for most driving needs, but an optional 180-hp, turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder adds more zing to this peppy economy car. Regular Civic sedans come solely with a continuously variable automatic transmission, but a six-speed manual is available on the hatchback. An upscale cabin with a hint of retro flair in its dashboard design adds to the Civic’s well-rounded and appealing nature. Rivals include the Hyundai Elantra, Kia Forte, Mazda3 and Toyota Corolla.

For performance-minded drivers, Honda sells Si and Type R versions of the Civic, the latter of which is covered separately on Cars.com. The sporty Si model is available only as a sedan, featuring a 200-hp version of the turbo 1.5-liter engine; the high-performance Type R comes only as a four-seat hatchback and is powered by a 315-hp, turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder. A six-speed manual is the only transmission offered in the Si and Type R.

What’s New on the 2023 Honda Civic?

Honda has dropped the entry-level LX trim from the Civic lineup. At the top of the range, the Type R model returns on the Civic’s redesigned-for-2022 platform after taking the 2022 model year off.

What Features in the 2023 Honda Civic Are Most Important?

Standard features include:

Should I Buy the 2023 Honda Civic?

The Honda Civic remains one of the best automotive values on the market; it will leave you feeling like you’ve spent your money wisely. In addition to its daily-commute practicality, the Civic’s eager handling and refined suspension make it a delight to drive. The hatchback is the one to pick if you routinely carry lots of gear and need every ounce of cargo space. While it’s not exactly a bargain, the track-tuned Civic Type R is extremely quick and possesses the reflexes of a true sports car.
