What it is: The Honda Civic is a front-drive compact car available in sedan, coupe and four-door hatchback body styles, the latter added for 2017. It competes with the Chevrolet Cruze, Ford Focus, Hyundai Elantra, Nissan Sentra and Toyota Corolla.
The sedan and coupe are available with a choice of a 2.0-liter four-cylinder or a turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine, while the hatchback comes only with the 1.5-liter turbo. A six-speed manual transmission is standard on LX and EX-T models and the Sport hatchback, and a continuously variable automatic transmission is optional. The CVT is standard on other trims.
The sedan and coupe are also available in performance Si trim with a 205-horsepower version of the 1.5-liter turbo engine; that’s 31 hp more than in other models. The hatchback also comes in ultra-performance Type R form with a 306-hp, turbocharged 2.0-liter engine. A six-speed manual is the only transmission available for Si and Type R models.
