Expert 2023 GMC Terrain review

our expert's take

What Is the 2023 GMC Terrain?

The GMC Terrain is a compact SUV that seats five. It has a standard 175-horsepower, turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine that works with a nine-speed automatic transmission. Front-wheel drive is standard, and all-wheel drive is available. GMC’s upscale Denali trim is offered, and last year, an off-road-look AT4 trim joined the line. Terrain competitors include the Honda CR-V, Mazda CX-5 and Volkswagen Tiguan.

What’s New on the 2023 GMC Terrain?

The Terrain’s engine gets a 5-hp bump over last year’s 170-hp setup. An electronic brake-assist feature helps sharpen stopping behavior, and a Black Diamond Edition Package for the Denali adds features such as dark-finished alloy wheels, a 360-degree camera system and a panoramic moonroof.

What Features in the 2023 GMC Terrain Are Most Important?

Standard features include:

  • 4G LTE Wi-Fi hot spot (data subscription required after initial trial)
  • 7-inch touchscreen multimedia system
  • Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
  • Forward collision warning
  • Automatic emergency braking
  • Lane departure steering assist
  • Automatic high-beam headlights

Available features include:

  • Hands-free power liftgate
  • Remote start
  • Leather upholstery
  • Heated front seats
  • Heated steering wheel
  • 8-inch touchscreen
  • Navigation
  • Blind spot warning with rear cross-traffic alert
  • Adaptive cruise control
  • Panoramic moonroof
  • Semi-automated parking-assist feature
  • 360-degree camera system
  • 19-inch wheels

Should I Buy the 2023 GMC Terrain?

The GMC Terrain a decent, versatile compact SUV with an easy-to-use multimedia system. The AT4 trim is more about looking rugged than having truly enhanced off-road capability (an underbody skid plate is its only real functional upgrade), but it still offers a distinctive look and feel, as does the ritzy Denali.

Love Our New 2023 Denali Terrain!

We purchased the Denali Terrain 2023. The car is great. I have had four knee surgeries and needed a car to get in and out easily and comfort seating. The controls for adjusting the seat just the way you like are great. I am troubled also by back problems and totally love the heated seat when needed. Sometimes I just want to ride around and turn the heat on and adjust seat so my back feels better. The different controls and are numerous. I love the safety control warnings and info with traffic. The screen is fabulous and helps so much. When ever I park I like to drive in and park and then hold on brake put it in reverse so the screen then comes on and shows how I parked. I like the levers in cargo area for putting seats down and also like how flat they sit. Plenty of room. The back seat is roomy even when person in front is back. Enjoy being up higher than a vehicle. I feel I can see more and it also makes me feel safer. The Terrain looks beautiful and love all the chrome in front. The car seems bumpy but not as bad as our last. The roads are in rough shape here. It has a lot of pick-up my husband demonstrated that to me and he wont be doing that again unless it is necessary. It is a turbo 4 cylinder and can not believe the power you feel. All in all Iove the car and getting good mileage. Purchased car from Boucher in Waukesha. They were not pushy. Explained everything in detail and were very fair. Great place to purchase!

An Honest Review

As a GMC Terrain owner of 7 months, I cannot tell you how much I hate the fact that I purchased my vehicle. Below is my review CONS - MPG for 17500 miles is - 26mpg - Gas tank range - 380 miles, if you are lucky, 387 miles - Driving - uneven roads, speed bumps, gravel roads, and dirt roads must be avoided as much as possible - This vehicle does not deserve the AT4 tag; if you are a disabled veteran like myself and have chronic pain, driving this vehicle outdoors or off the paved roads will physically hurt you. - Towing - GMC mechanics would have to cut the bumper to add a tow bar; installing this system is too expensive. - There are almost no accessories available for this vehicle. - Cargo space is horrible - I cannot fit my wheelchair in this vehicle without folding down the seats in the back. Heaven forbid I have to take anyone else with me other than my family. - No in-cabin air filter - I did not expect this in a non-base model. - Doe not fit my lifestyle at all. - Lacks power and responsiveness. - Roof rack for a vehicle that cannot go off road does not make sense to me - To make this vehicle off-road worthy would be extremely costly - Touch screen system keeps dropping my phone connection; this is aggravating PROS - Comfort - the seats are nice, but that is it. - The camera system - The safety features I hope that my review assist you in your next purchase, Joe Ferrara
