our expert's take

What Is the 2023 Ford Ranger?

The Ford Ranger is a mid-size pickup truck that seats up to five and competes with the Toyota Tacoma, Nissan Frontier and Chevrolet Colorado. Unlike many pickups on the market, the Ranger is offered with only one engine: a 270-horsepower, turbocharged 2.3-liter four-cylinder that works with a 10-speed automatic transmission. Rear- and four-wheel-drive versions are available, and the Ranger is offered in extended- and crew-cab form.

What’s New on the 2023 Ford Ranger?

A redesigned Ford Ranger is expected to debut in the North American market for the 2024 model year, so updates to the 2023 Ranger are limited to a couple of new paint colors and a Splash Jungle Edition appearance package.

What Features in the 2023 Ford Ranger Are Most Important?

Standard features include:

  • 16-inch steel wheels
  • Air conditioning
  • Cloth seating
  • Bluetooth connectivity
  • 4G LTE Wi-Fi hot spot (data subscription required after trial)
  • Automatic emergency braking

Available features include:

  • 17- or 18-inch aluminum wheels
  • Dual-zone automatic air conditioning
  • Remote start
  • Leather-trimmed seats
  • Heated front seats
  • 8-inch touchscreen multimedia system
  • Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone connectivity
  • Navigation
  • Bang & Olufsen premium stereo
  • Adaptive cruise control
  • Blind spot warning with rear cross-traffic alert
  • Lane-centering steering
  • Automatic high-beam headlights
  • Front and rear parking sensors

Should I Buy the 2023 Ford Ranger?

The Ranger may have a dated cabin, but this truck remains competitive in terms of power, performance and fuel economy. As far as trucks go, the Ranger is also very easy to drive and maneuver.
