What Is the 2025 Ford Mustang?
The Ford Mustang is a retro-themed sports car that comes as a coupe or convertible with nominal seating for four. Now in its 60th model year, the Mustang finds itself essentially in a class of one, as the rival Chevrolet Camaro and Dodge Challenger have recently been discontinued. The base drivetrain is a stout turbocharged 2.3-liter four-cylinder that makes 315 horsepower and is paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission. While this engine provides plenty of zip, few things are more visceral than the available 5.0-liter V-8. It churns out 480 hp in the GT trim, and the line-topping Dark Horse ups this to an even 500 hp. The Dark Horse also gets special trim touches and high-performance enhancements like upgraded brakes, additional oil coolers, and an available handling package that includes stiffer springs and low-profile competition tires. While the turbo-four comes only with an automatic transmission, the V-8 is available with a six-speed manual gearbox in addition to the 10-speed automatic.
What’s New on the 2025 Ford Mustang?
To celebrate a noteworthy Mustang birthday, Ford has introduced a 60th Anniversary Package. Offered only with the V-8 engine, this special appearance package can be had in one of three colors: Race Red, Vapor Blue and Wimbledon White. Silver or red stripes run along the rocker panels, while models in blue or red exterior paint get silver-colored side mirrors that mimic the chrome ones used on the original 1965 Mustang. A specific mesh grille and unique 20-inch alloy wheels further distinguish the 60th Anniversary models from the rest of the Mustang line.

Should I Buy the 2025 Ford Mustang?
The Mustang delivers loads of retro appeal and excellent customizability, and last year’s redesign brought it a new tech-centric interior that brings it more up to date. While the base turbo four-cylinder provides reasonable fuel economy and plenty of pep, the brawny optional V-8 is hard to resist — even though you’ll have to spend around $13,500 to step up to a base GT coupe from a base four-cylinder coupe. Let’s not forget the Mustang GT and Dark Horse are available with a manual gearbox, something that’s increasingly rare among new cars — even performance-focused ones. Speaking of rare, this holds true for direct rivals to Ford’s pony car. With the recent demise of the Camaro and Challenger, the Mustang runs free in a nostalgic muscle-car field that’s down to one (at least for now).
