What Is the 2023 Ford Mustang?

The Ford Mustang is a rear-wheel-drive, four-seat sports car that goes head-to-head with the Chevrolet Camaro and Dodge Challenger. It’s available in coupe and convertible body styles and five main trims: EcoBoost, EcoBoost Premium, GT, GT Premium and Mach 1. Ford previously offered the high-performance Shelby GT500, but that version has been discontinued for 2023.

The EcoBoost is powered by a 310-horsepower, turbocharged 2.3-liter four-cylinder engine; an optional High Performance Package boosts output to 330 hp. The GT comes with a 450-hp, 5.0-liter V-8, and the Mach 1 has a 470-hp, 5.0-liter V-8. All engines can be paired with a six-speed manual transmission or a 10-speed automatic.

The Mustang coupe offers 17 cubic feet of trunk space, according to Cars.com’s cargo measurements.

What’s New on the 2023 Ford Mustang?

Other than the discontinuation of the high-performance Shelby GT500, the Mustang carries over unchanged for 2023. A redesigned 2024 Mustang is slated to go on sale in the summer of 2023.

What Features in the 2023 Ford Mustang Are Most Important?

Standard features include:

  • 17-inch aluminum wheels
  • Manual air conditioning
  • Push-button start
  • 4G LTE Wi-Fi hot spot (data subscription required after trial)
  • Forward collision warning
  • Automatic emergency braking
  • Lane departure steering assist
  • Blind spot warning with rear cross-traffic alert
  • Automatic high-beam headlights

Available features include:

  • Dual-zone automatic air conditioning
  • Power-adjustable heated and ventilated front seats
  • Leather-trimmed seats
  • 8-inch touchscreen multimedia system
  • Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone connectivity
  • Navigation
  • Rear parking sensors
  • Adaptive cruise control

Should I Buy the 2023 Ford Mustang?

The Mustang hits all the right retro buttons for muscle car enthusiasts, and with a wide range of performance options, this venerable pony car is as appealing as ever. It delivers style and powerful acceleration — especially with its available V-8 engines. Granted, the ride in performance models is on the firmer side, and the backseat is best for kids or extra luggage. When it comes to bang for your buck, though, the Mustang remains a thrilling choice. If you want fresher styling and more up-to-date technology features, you might want to wait for the redesigned 2024 Mustang, but it will almost certainly be more expensive.

I bought a GT Premium/California Special and love it. It has more bells and whistles than any Mustang I have ever owned. The Mustang is well insulated and is a solid vehicle.
