our expert's take

What Is the 2024 Ford Maverick?

One of only two truly compact pickup trucks currently on sale — the other being the Hyundai Santa Cruz — the Maverick is Ford’s most affordable vehicle. It comes standard with a turbocharged 2.0-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder engine making 250 horsepower and 277 pounds-feet of torque, with an available hybrid powertrain that uses a 2.5-liter four-cylinder for a combined 191 hp and 155 pounds-feet. Front-wheel drive is standard, but all-wheel drive is only available with the turbocharged 2.0-liter. Because it’s based on the platform of Ford’s compact Escape SUV, the Maverick doesn’t have the rugged structure of a body-on-frame pickup. Available FX4 and Tremor off-road packages, however, add rough-terrain capabilities via features like skid plates, front tow hooks, all-terrain tires and additional ground clearance.

What’s New on the 2024 Ford Maverick?

For 2024, Ford has switched the places of the Maverick’s two engine offerings. The 2.5-liter hybrid engine that was standard for 2023 is now optional, and the formerly optional turbocharged 2.0-liter EcoBoost is now standard.

What Features in the 2024 Ford Maverick Are Most Important?

Standard features include:

  • LED headlights
  • 8-inch touchscreen
  • Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
  • Six-speaker audio system
  • Forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking

Available features include:

  • Spray-in bedliner
  • Keyless entry and start
  • Eight-speaker Bang & Olufsen audio system
  • Off-road suspension
  • Adaptive cruise control
  • Blind spot warning
  • Rear cross-traffic alert
  • Emergency steering assist

Should I Buy the 2024 Ford Maverick?

The 2024 Ford Maverick is a versatile canvas. The hybrid earned a 42/33/37 mpg city/highway/combined EPA rating, but we averaged 41.5 mpg over 200 miles of mixed driving in our own testing. The turbocharged 2.0-liter EcoBoost can tow up to 4,000 pounds, while the hybrid maxes out at 2,000 pounds. The available Tremor Package brings a noteworthy increase in off-road ability, as well as some subtle but cool visual tweaks. The Maverick allows buyers to spec their truck to fit a range of priorities, but no matter the form, it’s affordable and highly desirable. When it debuted for 2022, we named it not only our Best Pickup Truck, but also Best of the Year among all new or significantly redesigned vehicles. It nabbed our Best Pickup Truck honor again for 2023.

The main reason I got this car was the gas milage and it

The main reason I got this car was the gas milage and it doesn’t disappoint! My drive to work is 14 miles one way. My old Jeep, I had to fill up every other week. Overall, I’ve owned my XL for about 2 weeks. So far I’ve only taken one trip with it which was a 2 hour drive one way. It handled incredibly well with the slick roads, and the drive was enjoyable. I took one star off reliability because the battery issue. 1 week into owning it I took a 5 minute trip to the grocery store which turned into a 5 hour ordeal. The car only sat there for about 2 minutes and I went to remote start from my app. It said there was an error and I figured I was too far away (about 100 yards). I got out to my truck and started it and it gave me a bunch of error messages. It couldn’t drive. So, I called to have it jumped. They came out to jump it and even afterwards, it had all sorts of error messages. I ended up waiting another 2 hours for the tow truck and ended up being stuck at the dealership for another hour. The next day my car was returned to me, good as new. It was a battery issue according to the dealership. They put in a new battery and it’s working fine again. That’s why I took off one star for reliability. I’m hoping this doesn’t happen again in the future. Also, the amount of recalls is impressive and disheartening. If you’re in the market for a small truck with good gas mpg, this is your car. I don’t use the bed, but I plan on getting a cover so I can put luggage back there for my next trip.

I got the Mavrick Larit, but it didn't come with the front parking distance Decator and no fog lights. The mileage is very good and comfortable, but the one thing I don't like on both of my Ford Explorer and Ford Maverick is the systems that turn off the engine and knocks both the engine and transmission which will become a bigger problem where the engine and transmission will break plus I also have to turn off the swaying system which causes my truck steering to lock up when I'm not towing anything so i have to turn this off also.
