What Is the 2023 Ford Expedition?

Offered in regular- and extended-length Max form, the Ford Expedition full-size SUV seats five people in two rows or up to eight people in three rows. It’s powered by a twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V-6 engine that makes 375, 400 or 440 horsepower, depending on trim level. The V-6 teams with a 10-speed automatic transmission, and rear- and four-wheel-drive models are offered. Competitors include the Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban, the Toyota Sequoia and the Nissan Armada.

What’s New on the 2023 Ford Expedition?

Following an extensive refresh for 2022, the Expedition carries over with no significant changes. The off-road-oriented Timberline trim gets Ford’s Trail 1-Pedal Drive — a type of cruise-control system for low-speed off-road driving — as standard equipment.

What Features in the 2023 Ford Expedition Are Most Important?

Standard features include:

  • Keyless entry with push-button start
  • 4G LTE Wi-Fi hot spot (data subscription required after trial)
  • Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
  • Automatic emergency braking
  • Blind spot warning with rear cross-traffic alert
  • Lane-centering steering
  • Automatic high-beam headlights
  • 12-inch touchscreen

Available features include:

  • Panoramic moonroof
  • Power running boards
  • Power liftgate
  • Front and rear parking sensors
  • Power-adjustable pedals with memory feature
  • Second-row captain’s chairs
  • Power third-row seat
  • Heated steering wheel
  • Heated, ventilated and massaging front seats
  • Heated second-row seats
  • 15.5-inch touchscreen
  • Navigation
  • Surround-view camera
  • B&O premium stereo
  • Wireless device charging
  • Adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability
  • Hands-free BlueCruise driver assist (Platinum trim)
  • Adaptive suspension

Should I Buy the 2023 Ford Expedition?

The Expedition has plenty of capability — it can tow up to 9,300 pounds when properly equipped — and it offers lots of tech features. It’s roomy, rides well and has a powerful drivetrain, too. It can get pricey, and towing disproportionately drags down fuel economy, but the Expedition is an impressive full-size SUV overall. Its list of available equipment is long, and the specialized features of the Timberline and Stealth Performance versions give them distinctive personalities and genuinely improved capabilities.

Con’s: Very Expensive.

Con’s: Very Expensive. The Limited which is Ford’s Base Midline will run about 70k. With the Platinum well into the 80’s. The only model with some true leather is the King Ranch, which sits between the Limited and Platinum. This is for a twin Turbo V6. Two extra things to go wrong. The fuel economy is okay, its the same as my 2003 2500 Chevy Duramax. One would think technology would have kicked in by now. My biggest complaint is the tires, well lets hope its the tires. I can only speak for the 2023 and 2024, Limited’s with 22” rims. They all vibrate at highway speeds and it gets worse the faster you go. Ford dealership acknowledges the problem and advises that Ford has no fix. The 2022 King Ranch had 22” tires but they were a different manufacturer and ran great. Pro’s. Comfort, all the seats and interior space is great. The large screen for radio and a/c is nice but not as nice as the one Dodge has in their vehicles.
