Our expert's take

2021 Chevrolet Traverse front OEM jpg

Chevrolet is out to solidify its grip on the SUV segment, and the Traverse has long played a key role in luring in more family buyers. The model has seen its fair share of changes over the years, but it still manages to be a strong contender among three-row SUVs. But what changes are in store for the 2023 Traverse?

Light Updates Add Polish

Chevrolet chose to take a subdued approach to the Traverse’s updates for the 2023 model year, focusing on minor changes. Two new exterior colors, Sterling Gray Metallic and Radiant Red Tintcoat, join the color palette, while a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shifter become standard on LT Cloth, LT Leather, RS, Premium and High Country trims. The rest of the Traverse is largely carried over from the 2022 model year, including its 310 horsepower, 3.6 liter V-6 and nine-speed automatic transmission. All models come standard with front-wheel drive, but all-wheel drive is available.

Modest Pricing

Pricing for the 2023 Traverse increases slightly over the 2022 model. Starting prices for the lineup are below (all prices include destination):

  • LS FWD: $35,915 (up $820)
  • LS AWD: $37,915 (up $820)
  • LT Cloth FWD: $38,440 (up $845)
  • LT Cloth AWD: $42,240 (up $845)
  • LT Leather FWD: $42,135 (up $840)
  • LT Leather AWD: $44,135 (up $840)
  • RS FWD: $46,440 (up $845)
  • RS AWD: $48,440 (up $845)
  • Premier FWD: $48,595 (up $600)
  • Premier AWD: $51,195 (up $600)
  • High Country FWD: $53,395 (up $800)
  • High Country AWD: $55,595 (up $800)

This pricing ladder allows the Traverse to be on firm footing with rivals like the 2023 Ford Explorer and 2023 Hyundai Palisade, which start at $38,255 and $36,545, respectively — though both of these models have benefitted from a more extensive suite of updates and revisions.

Love this car!

Love this car! This is our 2nd Traverse. My wife loves it. I have 180,000 miles on it and still going strong. We will definitely be looking for our 3rd one. It has the most room of all SUV in its classs. The v-6 has very good power with lots of pickup.

2023 Traverse LS

We have only had it a few days , Initial impression is good . Very comfortable to ride in and this is only the LS version . Probably the only midsize SUV with a V6 that you can still get for $33000 . V6 runs well , can't speak to the mileage yet as it isnt even broken in yet but should get 27-28 mpg out on the highway with a 9 speed auto . As of right now it shifts well . Really like the two tone interior . Has soft touch vinyl . Probably a few. spots on doors where the vinyl is a little hard and looks a little cheap it does not bother me . Exterior wise I like the LED headlights which seem to work well enough . Also like the LED DRL's which turn amber when you put the signal lights on . also has LED taillights and reverse lamps . Interior had LED reading lamps and interior lamps . The auto stop/start has a button to turn it off . This was a must for me . A deal breaker if it did not have it . It is down next to the shifter . The seats on mine are cloth , very nice lighter tan and the cloth is very tough material which should not wear out . Very happy with them and they are reasonably comfortable . The second row will recline a little though not as much as the first row . The second row is a bench type seat as this the LS version which is the cheapest one . Even this version has Blind spot and lane departure warnings, accident avoidance system,Lane keep assist Rear cross traffic alert . These aren't something I really wanted and will actually probably turn them off as I don't need the car manuvering the car on it's own . As far as long term reliability only time will tell . Initailly I see no issues with the car and everything seems to work though I havent really gone thru all features yet , I hope to get 10 years and 150000 miles out of this without a lot of trouble . Don't let me down Chevy .
