our expert's take

What Is the 2025 Chevrolet Equinox EV?

The Chevrolet Equinox EV is an electric-powered compact SUV that seats five people. The standard powertrain is a single electric motor that feeds 220 horsepower to the front wheels, while a 300-hp, dual-motor all-wheel-drive powertrain is optional. The Equinox EV is Chevrolet’s least expensive electric vehicle; the Blazer EV is its larger, pricier stablemate. The Equinox EV competes with the Ford Mustang Mach-E, Honda Prologue, Hyundai Ioniq 5, Nissan Ariya, Toyota bZ4X and Volkswagen ID.4.

What’s New on the 2025 Chevrolet Equinox EV?

The Equinox EV gets a revamped trim-level structure and a slight horsepower boost for its sophomore season. The single-motor powertrain’s 220-hp rating is up 7 hp from 2024, and the dual-motor powertrain’s 300-hp rating represents a 12-hp bump.

How Much Range Does the 2025 Chevrolet Equinox EV Have?

The Chevrolet Equinox EV’s EPA-estimated driving range is very competitive: 285 miles with AWD and 319 miles with FWD.

How Long Does it Take to Charge the 2025 Chevrolet Equinox EV?

The Equinox EV can add approximately 77 miles of range in 10 minutes using a DC fast charger, Chevrolet says. The Equinox EV’s onboard charger can accept up to 11.5 kilowatts from a Level 2 charging system, which Chevrolet says can add up to 36 miles of range per hour.

What Features in the 2025 Chevrolet Equinox EV Are Most Important?

Standard features include:

  • 17.7-inch touchscreen
  • 11-inch digital instrument panel
  • Google Maps
  • Satellite radio
  • Keyless entry
  • Remote start
  • Navigation
  • Automatic climate control
  • Adaptive cruise control
  • Blind spot warning
  • Automatic high beams
  • Lane departure warning
  • Lane departure steering assist
  • Rear parking sensors
  • Intersection automatic emergency braking

Available features include:

  • Super Cruise hands-free highway driving assist
  • Heated steering wheel
  • Heated and ventilated front seats
  • Surround-view parking camera
  • Head-up display
  • Hands-free power liftgate
  • Wireless device charging
  • Eight-speaker Bose stereo
  • Interior ambient lighting

Should I Buy the 2025 Chevrolet Equinox EV?

The Chevrolet Equinox EV’s relatively affordable pricing and competitive specs make it a compelling value in the current crop of EVs. The single-motor FWD powertrain has decent pep for routine driving, though the extra passing power and all-weather grip of the dual-motor AWD arrangement could be worth the extra expenditure. Inside, the Equinox looks fresh and has all of the expected features, with the notable exception of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto — which could be a deal breaker for some shoppers. Also, cargo room behind the backseat is a bit snug for the class.

My wife purchased a 2024 Chevy Equinox EV LT2 last year

My wife purchased a 2024 Chevy Equinox EV LT2 last year and loved it. Since I too thought it was a terrific car and was thinking of trading in my Accord while it still had some value I decided to take the EV plunge myself. My beautiful black 2025 Chevy Equinox EV is the base model LT FWD with the $2,000 option packages ($1,455 Comfort Package and $545 Active Safety Package 2), which included everything I wanted and nothing I didn't, by far the best overall Equinox EV bang for the buck. Chevy can keep their power liftgate, interior mood lighting and self-dimming rear view mirror and I was happy to have kept my $8,300 in my pocket. The base models can be a bit challenging to come by but be patient, check around and see what your local dealerships can do for you. Mine was listed on my dealer's website as "In Transit" and they were nice enough to hold her for me. Another dealer had told me they were impossible to get and lost an easy sale because of it so don't be told the base models can't be had! She's comfortable, handles well, has plenty of power for everyday driving (it's an SUV, not a track car), is well built and generously appointed with a ton of worthwhile technology and standard features. The range is better than advertised and with a total of $14,500 in federal, state and manufacturer incentives on the table, snagging her was a no-brainer. The only negatives I've come across so far are the horrible reflection of the dashboard on the inside of the windshield (easily remedied by a pair of inexpensive polarized sunglasses) and no Apple CarPlay/Android Auto. I'm an Apple CarPlay guy but I have to say that for the most part I really haven't missed it. I paired my phone to the Google-powered infotainment system, logged into my Google account, approved a few "sync" options and so far haven't missed a beat. Navigation, phone calls, texts, even certain vehicle controls, all voice-based and working well. If CarPlay is the only thing keeping you from considering the Chevy Equinox EV then keep an open mind, take a test drive and see for yourself how much of a deal-breaker it is compared to your other EV options once your driven one. In less than two years, the Chevy Equinox EV has established a loyal, enthusiastic following (just check out the FB groups, online forums, etc.), a following that I'm happy to be a part of. It's nice to see a domestic automobile compare so well to the imports after residing in their shadows for so long.

Purchased the end of November.

Purchased the end of November. Wanted to make sure I got the $7500 tax credit and competitor rebate. Equinox EV LT 2025 blue with the blackout package and the charger cord. I traded a 2012 Ford. So far I'm happy with the purchase. I'm retired now so I don't drive that much. Also the cold weather doesn't help. I have less than 600 miles on it. I have only been using the level 1 charger cord. It works for now. I will get a level 2 by the summer. It's working for now. The car has many good features: adaptive cruise control, lane keep, the almost 18" infotainment screen. 19" alloy wheels. It even came with floor mats. All in all, a good car for the money and a great deal.
