What Is the 2019 Chevrolet Bolt EV?

With a future-is-now approach, Chevrolet's all-electric Bolt EV hatchback delivers 238 miles of range on a full charge, according to the EPA, which should go a long way toward eliminating the kind of range anxiety drivers experience in electric cars with shorter driving ranges. Unlike the Chevrolet Volt, which has a small range-extending gas engine, the five-seat Bolt EV is a battery-electric car that offers optional DC fast charging in addition to 120- and 240-volt charging. Competitors include the Nissan Leaf, Hyundai Ioniq Electric, Volkswagen e-Golf and Tesla Model 3.

What's New on the 2019 Chevrolet Bolt EV?

A new tire fill alert beeps the horn when an underinflated tire reaches the correct air pressure.

What Features in the 2019 Chevrolet Bolt EV Are Most Important?

Standard features include LED headlights, a digital instrument panel, Bluetooth connectivity, a 10.2-inch touchscreen multimedia system, and Android Auto and Apple CarPlay smartphone connectivity. Options include front and rear heated seats, a heated steering wheel, wireless device charging and a Bose premium stereo.

Available active safety features include forward collision warning, low-speed automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane departure warning, lane keeping assist, and blind spot warning with rear cross-traffic alert.

Should I Buy the 2019 Chevrolet Bolt EV?

The Bolt EV is a good step forward in the development of electric vehicles that are affordable for average car shoppers. The car offers plenty of driving range on a full charge, plus hatchback utility with its 56.6 cubic feet of maximum cargo room. Ride quality is a bit busier than the competition, but the car accelerates quickly. The Bolt EV is eligible for a federal tax credit, but it's already begun to phase out, so be sure to check the schedule before buying.

I've had my 2019 Bolt Premier for a month now and it's really a clever little vehicle. Nimble and fun to drive with lots of room (can fit two mt bikes in the back). Coming from a VW GTI I expected the Bolt to be a substantial step down, but it's not. Granted the GTI is leagues ahead in both interior and exterior build quality, but the Bolt is no slouch in terms of what a fun-sized EV hatch should be. With a low center of gravity, loads of "O" torque and a decent suspension, the Bolt doesn't embarrass itself while performing it's appointed tasks around town. Sure, the steering could benefit from taking a communications class and the brakes are less than linier but the single pedal driving dynamic is outstanding (I could seriously go on for a while regarding how intuitive the one pedal regen system is on the Bolt, kudos to GM for their work on this feature). The rest of the gripes about the Bolt (plastic interior, uncomfortable front seats, low res screens, odd styling) I think miss the mark regarding the sum of it's parts. At the end of the day, does the Bolt deliver a satisfying experience and leave you with a smile? Absolutely!

What a great car.

I've only had my Bolt LT for about a month, but I'm 100% satisfied with my purchase. It's a 2019 with less than 25,000 miles on it. It set me back $18.5k, but between rebates from Edison and federal tax credits I'm only out $13.5k. On top of that, because of the battery recall, it's got a brand-new battery (the part of an ev that wears out.) The Bolt is an awesome vehicle. It's small on the outside but large on the inside. I'm over 6 feet tall and I've got plenty of head and leg room. Most importantly, there's room in the cargo area for my 80 lb. Mastiff mix. If she's happy, I'm happy. The car is quiet and fast (0-60 under 7 seconds!). Visibility looking out is fantastic. I love the low beltline and large windows. The A.C. blows really cool- a definite plus living in Southern California. I had read a number of consumer reviews that complained about seat comfort. For me, it's not an issue, the seats are fine. Likewise, a number of reviewers had issue with the stock stereo system. Again, for me, the stereo sounds great. Of course, because it's electric, I won't miss paying $5+ a gallon for gas or waiting in line to pay for an oil change ever again.
