Expert 2019 Audi TTS review

What Is the 2019 Audi TT?

The Audi TT comes as a four-seat coupe or two-seat soft-top roadster. Both have a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with 220 horsepower, a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and all-wheel drive. Audi also offers a more powerful TTS coupe with 288 hp. Competing convertibles include the Mercedes-Benz SLC-Class, while coupe alternatives range from BMW's 2 Series to the Lexus RC.

What's New on the 2019 Audi TT?

A seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission replaces a six-speed automatic as standard on all models, which also get the Audi phone box with wireless charging as standard. A Competition Package for the TTS includes carbon fiber interior trim, leather sport seats, 20-inch black wheels, black exterior trim and red brake calipers.

What Features in the 2019 Audi TT Are Most Important?

Standard all-wheel drive is a plus, as are LED headlights, configurable driving modes, a full LCD instrument panel and a lushly furnished interior.

Should I Buy the 2019 Audi TT?

You will stand apart from the crowd of SUVs on today's roads with the TT; Audi sold fewer than 1,300 in 2018. Its handling and performance are commendable, though there's a noticeable lag after stepping on the gas before a rush of power arrives in normal driving modes. The cabin is spacious and comfortable for two and comes with a wide assortment of amenities. The limited practicality of the TT, though, means it works best as a second or third car in a family fleet, albeit one that can be a pleasure to drive.

TEST DRIVE - 2019 AUDI TT

I should give a little background of my perspective. I am a quazi-audiophile that listens to many styles of music but Jazz is my primary go to music. I like a car that's not too noisy/loud but has a nice more subdued exhaust note and suspension that's not overly firm. You might say I'm a sporty GT kind of guy. I've owned Mercedes and BMW coupes and have test driven Porsches, Jaguars, the Genesis G70, Infinitis, Hyundai Veloster N, Alfa Romeos, Vettes, the new Mazda MX-5, and of course the new BMWs & Mercedes. To my eye there's a simple yet sporty and sophisticated design ethos to the 2019 Audi TT Coupe. It's one of the more "timeless" designs on the market today and Audi has done a great job with it's current revision of the TT. THE INTERIOR: I think the interior became the benchmark in 2016 in its class by integrating Audi's Virtual Cockpit with an all digital display allowing full integration of Google maps and by incorporating the HVAC controls into the turbine style air vents. For 2019 Audi includes Audi's Phone Box that hides large cell phones, can connect with compatible phones automatically with NFC wireless connectivity and connects to Audi's car antennae to boost your phone's signal! The Bang and Olufsen 680 watt 12 speaker 14 Channel Sound System does a respectable and should satisfy most listeners with the exception of those who demand over accentuated bass. I'm 5'7" and stocky and found the cabin for a sports car to be relatively easy to ingress and egress. The steering wheel had a lot of extension to it and the although the seats in the S-Line Competition package opted TT were confortable, with my 250lb frame with thick football player thighs, I thought that anyone larger than me might feel the seat bottom bolsters just a little too snug but I didn't drive a TT without these sport seats. Everything was ergonomically good with 2 exceptions. 1. The 2nd cup holder was under the armrest which is not overly large to begin with and set a little further back than most. 2. I thing the back button location should be switched with the menu button so that your thumb can be used for the back button. It would be nice if Audi could do an optional glass roof like the one in the Mercedes SLC which uses a switch that disperses magnetic particles sandwiched between 2 layers of glass to let light in. The 22 cu. ft. of available luggage space with the rear seats down sets the TT apart from its direct competitors. The back seat is strictly for children or stowing things. RIDE & PERFORMANCE: The 2016 Audi TT Coupe reached 0-60 mph in 5.2 s and a lateral acceleration of .98 g in Car and Driver's testing. Using the newly introduced for 2019 7-speed dual clutch transmission, it wouldn't surprise me if the 0-60 mph time goes down. The car is very quick and accurate and although doesn't have the heft that "track people" probably prefer, I liked it very much and feel that most "luxury sporty car" drivers will like it too. I preferred the car in the individual mode with all settings in dynamic but the exhaust in and suspension both in comfort. With this set up, the car was sporty, quick enough for my taste, allowed me to enjoy my music, and not beat me up like a corvette. It feels and sounds more refined and sophisticated in this set up compared to a Porsche Cayman. I'm just not a fan of the current Cayman's 4 cyl. exhaust note. NIGHT DRIVING: With the TT's Quattro AWD, Jazz playing on the Bang & Olufsen audio system, the TT's individual settings set to my above liking, the soft white LED ambient light strips along the door panels and center stack, along with the soft white glow mood lighting in the foot wells, selecting the sport mode tachometer view with digital MPH in the center, created a wonderfully unique sophisticated night time test driving experience that I shall always remember. I think that's perhaps the highest praise that I can give the 2019 Audi TT with the S-Line Competition Package!

So much fun from the base 2.0 T

This is a fun car, I have the TT S-line and it goes like stink. Handling is amazing. I highly recommend the S-line package, it adds a lot. Very comfortable seats and stunning interior. Not the best car if you need space, but a good second car if you already have an SUV in the mix.
