Audi’s compact cars are getting on in age. The 2025 model year marks eight years since the A4 was last redesigned and seven for its sleek A5 counterpart. Most of the latest updates to the respective nameplates involve bytes and pixels — which run pretty cheap — and shuffling of cosmetic bits and pieces, but the most notable change is that the A5 loses two crucial variants: the two-door coupe and convertible.

Au Revoir, A5 Coupe and Cabriolet

The biggest news for 2025 for either nameplate is the departure of the more expensive two-door coupe and cabriolet variants of the A5. In an email to Cars.com, an Audi spokesperson said the body styles “will not have a successor after its discontinuation.”

Most versions of the 2025 Audi A4 and A5 Sportback are available in three trim levels: Premium, Premium Plus and Prestige; the RS 5 can only be had in the Prestige trim. Navigation is now standard on the Premium Plus trim level, and every S Line 45 car features black exterior trim and 18-inch wheels (the A5 Premium Plus and Prestige trims get 19s).

A new S Line Plus Package for the Premium Plus and Prestige trim levels extends the dark trim to the exterior badging, mirror housings, sill trim and rear lip spoiler. It also includes dark-chrome exhaust finishers and red brake calipers. The A4 S Line Plus rides on black 19-inch wheels, while the A5 gets 20-inch matte titanium rims. Inside, both cars get synthetic suede inserts on the seats, carbon-fiber trim and stainless-steel pedals.

On the A5 45, the 2024 model’s Convenience Package — which included blind spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert and keyless entry — becomes the Convenience Plus Package and adds a digital instrument cluster, aluminum trim and 19-inch platinum-finish wheels.

Tech Updates

On vehicles so equipped, the Audi Connect navigation trial subscription is extended from six months to three years. Audi Connect Plus now includes an integrated in-vehicle app store that allows owners to download communication and media apps such as Spotify, WhatsApp and Zoom directly to the infotainment system. Additionally, Audi Themes, a throwback to the early days of cellphones that allows owners to purchase wallpaper images for the infotainment display, evolves into Audi Themes Plus; the expanded function now incorporates unique audio cues and 3D images for the navigation display.

Carryover Powertrains

Both Audi sedans are available with a choice of turbocharged four-cylinder engines for the 2025 model year. Powering the A4 and A5 40s is a 201-horsepower, turbo 2.0-liter four that makes 236 pounds-feet of torque; the S Line 45 versions of both cars and the A4 Allroad wagon get the same engine, upgraded to 261 hp and 273 pounds-feet. A seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission backs both and sends power to all four wheels.

The S4 and S5 Sportback get a 349-hp, turbo 3.0-liter V-6 generating 369 pounds-feet of torque, while the RS5 features a 444-hp, twin-turbo 2.9-liter V-6 putting out 442 pounds-feet. S and RS variants get an eight-speed automatic and AWD.

The 2024 A4’s base drivetrain gets an EPA-rated 26/35/30 mpg city/highway/combined (official EPA figures for 2025 are not yet available); the more potent 45 four-cylinders are rated at 24/32/27 mpg, and the A4 Allroad gets 23/30/26 mpg. The S4 has a slight edge in city efficiency over the S5, rating 21/29/24 mpg to the Sportback’s 20/29/23 mpg, while the RS 5 sustains its horsepower habit with fuel economy of 18/25/20 mpg.
