What Is the 2019 Acura MDX?

The Acura MDX is a luxury SUV that can seat up to seven in three rows and is available in regular or Sport Hybrid form. The regular MDX is powered by a 290-horsepower, 3.5-liter V-6 engine that works with a nine-speed automatic transmission. The MDX Sport Hybrid has a combined 321 hp with a 3.0-liter V-6, a collection of electric motors and a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic. The MDX can have front- or all-wheel drive, and competitors include the Buick Enclave and Infiniti QX60.

What’s New on the 2019 Acura MDX?

The front seats now have standard four-way power-adjustable lumbar support. Other changes to the interior include available high-contrast stitching and real wood trim.

The new A-Spec version features 20-inch alloy wheels that are wider than other MDX wheels, gloss-black and dark chrome accents, body-colored side sills and larger exhaust tips. Inside, the A-Spec gets sport seats with Alcantara inserts, unique gauges, sport pedals, Alcantara trim, gloss-black accents, A-Spec badges and a thicker-rim steering wheel with shift paddles.

In addition, the regular MDX can now have the MDX Sport Hybrid’s adaptive suspension system and the nine-speed automatic transmission’s logic has been revised for smoother acceleration, according to Acura. Fuel-saving stop-start technology is now standard.

What Features in the 2019 Acura MDX Are Most Important?

The MDX’s available all-wheel-drive system includes torque-vectoring capability to improve handling. The SUV is also packed with standard active safety features like forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, lane keeping assist and adaptive cruise control.

Should I Buy the 2019 Acura MDX?

If you’re looking for a comfortable, quiet and upscale SUV that offers a lot of standard safety features, the Acura MDX may be a good fit. However, if you have a big family and lots of stuff to carry, a larger SUV or minivan might work better.

"MDX" The standard barer of Midsize SUV's

This vehicle hits all the right notes on style, comfort and value, but with so much tech packed into this platform, its reliability is questioned. The 3rd Gen MDX has a long history of ZF transmission issues. They rarely fail completely, but they are known to shift poorly under certain circumstances. MDX owners just learn to live with it for the most part, but it's a noticeable shortcoming on an otherwise stellar drivetrain. The Hybrid version of this vehicle has a different transmission and frankly operates in a different manner than standard AWD SUV's. Having three electric motors assisting the drivetrain at various points illustrates how complex the Hybrid MDX's propulsion system can be. The system although powerful at 300 Hp is not seamless and linear in it's acceleration. The engine and electric motors combined are all applied in hard acceleration but there are distinct surges in the powerband that you can feel. Reminiscent of a transmission slip but not exactly. Acura must be aware of this glitch and issued a TSB that is supposed to address it. So with that said the MDX Hybrid is a really good SUV with some issues in it's complex drivetrain. The ultimate reliability will be determined as we surge and slip into the future.

Best all around car I have ever owned

Very reliable and most verse use SUV I ever owned. Not too big, not too small. Great mileage, very powerful. When you need acceleration for passing, it is there in spades. It combines Acura's NSX engine with the hybrid battery for extra power. Best sound I have ever heard with ELS Studio's DTS Neural Surround system.
