Great Experience at Roper

Craig Greer was kind, listened to what I wanted, and didn't get pushy with me. I also appreciated the selection of cars in my price range with low miles available at Roper.

Thank you, Chris Martinez

I’m not usually one to write a review, sure I have no problem clicking on a star rating and leaving it at that…but I feel like my recent experience at Roper Honda especially Chris Martinez deserved a better explanation, then just the normal star rating we have come a custom to. To give a little back story, I’m a soon to be new dad (excited and scared as I can be all at the same time). I’m in the process in getting everything I can taken care of before my baby girl arrives, so I’ve created a list of things like I’m sure countless others have done in my same position. With buying a new (at least to me) car near the top. As you see my girlfriend and I have been sharing a vehicle for the past year. We both felt that this was impractical with a new born considering I work from home and would be watching our baby girl while she has the truck for her job. So, this begins our journey of finding a vehicle for my girlfriend or myself. This started like it always does going online to find the “perfect” vehicle. After finally settling on one, we showed up to a very well know dealership in Joplin and test drove what we though was going to be the one. After our little drive around, we soon figured out this wasn’t what we wanted and explained that to the sales person and then it started the pressure into buying a vehicle neither one of us wanted. I still to this day don’t know why he persisted on getting us into a vehicle we didn’t want, it was very unnerving to say the least. After some time of telling this sales person that we were not interested and being firm that we are not going to fill out a credit application, we were finally on our way home. During our drive home we passed a few dealerships but none of them had what we wanted until we passed Roper Honda. We saw the right vehicle for us, so we stopped in. As we walked around the vehicle checking out the outside and attempted to opened the door to look at the inside to our surprise it was actually unlocked. I didn’t have to go get a sales person to let us in or have them hovering over us while we took the vehicle in. We were there a good 10 minutes before anyone said a word to us. It was so nice to be able to think and look the vehicle over. Granted this vehicle wasn’t the one for us, the payments would have been too high to fit our new tighter budget. That is when we met Chris Martinez. Chris asked us what we were looking for and I told him my very detailed list of what we were wanting and what our total budget was for my current truck and the new vehicle. He actually listened and took interest in what we were looking for and of our concerns. He showed us the used vehicles that fit into our budget and explained the vehicles in very good detail. He then left us alone to explore them by ourselves without the hovering uncomfortable sales person intimidation feeling. My girlfriend and I look them all over very carefully and picked out the one that fit us, and that we liked the best. That all happened late on a Saturday, so we got the dreaded credit application filled out and Chris told us they wouldn’t hear anything back until Monday. Chris is normally off on Mondays but assured us he would be following up with us. I was like sure you will I’ve heard that one before, in my head. So, we headed home. Monday came and it was work like usual. I really didn’t expect to hear from Chris especially on his day off. I mean I can’t really blame the guy; I wouldn’t want to work on my day off either but then I get a call from Chris at about 1:00 PM, our credit application had been declined. I was already worried about that as I haven’t had the greatest credit in the past but was working on it very hard and Chris knew that. Even after this Chris didn’t just give up like most dealerships and sales people had done that just want the quick and easy road. Chris gave us a few other options and wanted to know if we could meet him (on his day off I remind you) to go over them. Of course, I said yes. This had been weighing on me for a while and I wanted to get it taken care of. We met Chris at the dealership, and he explained our different options 1. Was a bigger down payment which we didn’t want to do, since we are saving up for a baby, 2. We could buy a cheaper car to keep us in our budget but we didn’t really like any of the cheaper options, or 3. We could look at trading my trucking in to lower our overall payment and buy two new vehicles. The 3rd option seemed to be the best bet since I was paying a really high interest rate and in turn payment on it already and it was getting up in the years, but I didn’t think they would pay it off as I was upside down on the truck. Chris said they would look into it but wanted to see if we would like the vehicles, they had on the lot in our price range. So, he took us out to show us those vehicles before he looked over my truck for a trade in. I fell in love with Honda Pilot and my girlfriend fell in love with a Honda Civic. Then came the dreaded time of the numbers game…but there wasn’t any. They were going to pay my truck off in full which I couldn’t believe and there weren’t any hidden fees to deal with. The process was very straight forward and painless. Chris was really the only reason we are happy, and the stress relived before starting our next big chapter of our lives. Thank you, Chris, and if you need a new vehicle, I would strongly recommend him. I trust him so much that I sent my closest friend to him and they live over an hour and a half away. They drove away in a brand new Pilot too. Also, another friend of my bought a brand new HRV from him just today. That is two more people that have had a wonderful experience with Chris Martinez.
