Hyundai debuted the second-generation Kona Electric for the 2024 model year and is expanding the lineup for 2025 with the N Line. Like other products in the South Korean automaker’s portfolio to get the treatment, the Kona Electric’s N Line offers tweaks to the exterior styling and interior trim, but it’s not a full-on performance model in the vein of the Elantra N or Ioniq 5 N.

The Kona Electric N Line rides on black 19-inch wheels, wears trim-specific front and rear bumpers, and features black mirror caps and window surrounds. Inside, it gets dark-chrome and red accents, metal pedals, and sport seats upholstered in black synthetic suede and synthetic leather.

Elsewhere in the lineup, all Kona Electrics now have vehicle-to-load capability that allows them to charge other electric vehicles or power your home during an outage; 64-color ambient lighting, previously available only on the Limited, is also available on the N Line; and LED interior lighting is now available on the SEL, N Line and Limited trims (it was available only on the Limited for 2024, as well).

Powertrain Specs and Range

Mechanically, the Kona Electric is unchanged for 2025. The base SE trim draws from a 48.6-kilowatt-hour battery pack, which feeds a single electric motor driving the front wheels with 133 horsepower and 188 pounds-feet of torque. The SE’s range is 200 miles, according to Hyundai.

The SEL, N Line and Limited all get a larger 64.8-kWh battery pack and a more powerful 201-hp motor; it generates the same amount of torque as the SE’s. Riding on 17-inch wheels, the SEL and Limited can manage 261 miles on a charge, while the N Line’s 19-inch wheels help drain its battery in 230 miles. All Kona Electrics have a 10.8-kilowatt onboard charger that can juice the battery from 10% to 80% in about 43 minutes on a DC fast charger.

Availability and Pricing

The 2025 Hyundai Kona Electric will go on sale later in 2024. Full pricing (including $1,395 destination) is as follows:

  • SE: $34,270
  • SEL: $38,270
  • N Line: $39,670
  • Limited: $42,445

Safety Features and Trim Levels

Standard safety equipment on the 2025 Hyundai Kona Electric includes forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane-centering steering assist, blind spot monitors, rear cross-traffic alert, safe-exit warning, driver attention monitor, traffic-sign recognition and a rear-seat reminder.

The SE features LED exterior lighting, heated mirrors, and keyless entry and start. Inside, it has cloth seats, dual-zone automatic climate control, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, six speakers, and a 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen with navigation and wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

In addition to the larger battery pack and more powerful motor, the SEL adds rear privacy glass, a power-adjustable driver’s seat, heated front seats and rear air vents.

Splitting the difference between the SEL and Limited, the N Line features a power moonroof, ambient interior lighting, wireless phone charging, an eight-speaker Bose audio system and Hyundai’s Digital Key, which allows owners to use a paired smartphone as the vehicle key.

The Limited forgoes the N Line’s visual upgrades but keeps its luxury and tech features. Its safety suite is bolstered with automated parking; a 360-degree camera system; blind spot cameras; and front, side and rear parking sensors with reverse automatic braking. It also adds a hands-free power liftgate, synthetic leather upholstery, ventilated front seats, a heated steering wheel and soft-touch interior trim.
