Cars.com Names 2016 Best of Awards Winners
PRESS RELEASE
April 3, 2017
Cars.com announced winners in six different categories for its annual Best of Awards. Awards include Best of 2016, Best Pickup Truck of 2016, Eco-Friendly Car of the Year, Family Car of the Year, Luxury Car of the Year and Play Car of the Year. Winners were revealed at Cars.com’s 2016 Best of Awards Show in Detroit during the North American International Auto Show.
“Our editors evaluated dozens of all-new or fully redesigned cars to determine the overall best car and pickup truck of the year,” said Patrick Olsen, Cars.com editor-in-chief. “To determine winners in each of the other categories, we looked at the best cars already on the market. These cars must each demonstrate the highest levels of quality, proven safety and clear value in their respective segments, but are not required to be brand-new models.”
Winners in each category went to:
Best of 2016: 2016 Volvo XC90
Best Pickup Truck of 2016: 2016 Nissan Titan XD
Eco-Friendly Car of the Year: 2016 Toyota Prius c
Family Car of the Year: 2016 Nissan Rogue
Luxury Car of the Year: 2016 Mercedes-Benz CLS-Class
Play Car of the Year: 2016 BMW M235i
“Our highest honor, Best of 2016, went to the 2016 Volvo XC90, an SUV that’s been around for quite some time, but which in 2016 saw a complete remake, one that deeply impressed our experts,” said Olsen. “It exudes quality in everything from the look of its materials to the feel of its controls. Overall, the XC90 can be summed up in one word: execution. From its impressive feature set and high-tech controls to its blissfully comfortable ride, the XC90 is truly the best of the best this year.”
Each year, Cars.com purchases the best vehicle of the year in order to perform extensive testing through a year of ownership. According to Olsen, “It’s one thing to determine an overall winner from a crop of brand-new cars, but it’s another to put our money where our mouth is and actually purchase and live with the car for an entire year. Not only does this allow us to continue our evaluation, but it enables us to deliver content to our readers about the ownership of the car, including maintenance and long-term experiences.”
