2019 Volkswagen Arteon Starts at $37K ... Wait, What's the Arteon Again?
Remember Volkswagen’s new halo sedan, the 2019 Arteon that debuted at the 2018 Chicago Auto Show? Maybe? So, what happened to it, you ask? After a delay, VW says the car will finally go on sale soon with a base price of $36,840 (all prices include destination). The Arteon replaces the CC in Volkswagen’s lineup, although it’s bigger and more expensive than that model.

Available trims include SE, SEL and SEL Premium. All Arteons come standard with a 268-horsepower, turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder mated to a standard eight-speed automatic transmission with front-wheel drive. Other standard features include 18-inch aluminum-alloy wheels, LED headlights, a stop-start system, heated 12-way power front seats with four-way lumbar support, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, an 8-inch touchscreen multimedia system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a host of safety features such as forward collision warning with auto braking and rear cross-traffic alert.

Volkswagen also says the Arteon features a reactive hood that helps mitigate a pedestrian’s injuries in a crash. It uses sensors to identify an impending collision with a pedestrian and fires small pyrotechnic charges to raise the hood by about two inches at the hinges.
The base price is for the SE front-drive model. The SE 4Motion AWD model starts at $38,640, and AWD is available across the trim lineup.
The SEL model starts at $40,990 in FWD, and the AWD version starts at $42,790. Standards include adaptive front headlights, a panoramic moonroof, power folding mirrors, remote start, Nappa leather seats, driver-seat memory, ambient lighting, navigation, the 12.3-inch Volkswagen Digital Cockpit gauge display and adaptive cruise control that works all the way down to a stop.
SEL Premium models start at $45,940 and is AWD. It adds 19-inch aluminum-alloy wheels, a heated steering wheel, paddle shifters, ventilated front seats, a massaging driver’s seat, heated rear seats, a foot-activated power trunk, rear-seat climate controls, a premium audio system, and safety features like lane departure warning and assist, park assist and an overhead camera view.

An R-Line package is available on every trim level. It adds sportier exterior styling details but maintains the same powertrain. Shoppers can choose the R-Line Package with 19-inch aluminum-alloy wheels for $1,265, or the R-Line package with 20-inch aluminum-alloy wheels for $1,765.
The Arteon goes on sale in April and competes against the Acura TLX, which starts at $33,995, and the Nissan Maxima, which starts at $34,845.
